Koni Str.t kit - any reviews by Octy owners?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently looking at lowering my car and I know about the Weitec special on right now, but I was also looking at the Koni Str.t kits - does anyone have these on their Octy??

I am also curious about how reliable/durable the Weitec coilovers are - especially as they come with just a 2 yr warranty. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cawmere:)

Koni yellow shock absorbers are way too hard - both with stock springs and with sport springs.

Use Red konis or Bilstein / other brand. I only used Weitec distance spacers, they were OK.

I've got the STR.T kit on my Octy and it's not too bad. It's softened a bit over the 3,000 miles I've done so far. It was a bit harsh at first but for the money I can't complain. And SWMBO has never complained.

The car feels nice and planted through the twistys and it lowered it to look just right:

Ideally I would have had FSD's and Eibach springs but money was an issue. I was also looking at the Eibach Pro kit but I couldn't get hold of one in time.

If I was you I'd recommend saving up a bit more and going for the FSDs

Weitec are superb bit of kit, as will all the members who have them fitted on here will tell you. See the number of threads to check for yourself.

I have them fitted, along with lots of other members and can tell you they are very well made and extremely good value.

The Weitec are a firm ride. Not uncomfortable just firm. Most coilovers are as they are typically designed that way to stiffen up the chassis and allow better adjustment as they have adjustable platforms.

A lot of members first started out with just uprated shock and springs and after that progressed to coilovers having been used to the slightly softer ride none coilovers kits provide.

If you are not going coilover route go Koni FSD route. As you don't have a VRS then you may be ok with Eibach springs on the FSD's They are listed for the TDI model. MK1 Octy VRS's do not like Eibach springs at all as it completely buggers up there handling due to the VRS being heavier than the non VRS model. FSD are a very good shock and again used by a lot of owners on here.

Do you guys think that lowering the car on 16" alloys would look strange?

We sell both and I'd go for the Weitec's everytime.

Yeah it does. I'd only just noticed that yesterday. It's on a very slight slope but that shouldn't have made any difference and I don't think I had anything in the boot

It's got me a bit worried now

Any ideas?

It's like that on my Fabia, although it's settled over time and is now only noticeable when boot and tank are empty. I have heard it helps with understeer, and if you look at 'proper' hot hatches like the Focus ST, they ride lower at the front...

But this is lower at the rear

Anyway, I think I've (or rather Ken O'Neil) sussed it. The rear wheel nearest the house is in a drain dip so with stiffer suspension it's made the front left look higher. To quote the great man:

"With a stiffened suspension, I'd expect a bit of "short-legged tabling" which would lift the LHF in this case."

Thanks Ken

I'm looking at it properly today to make sure
