Kerb light, interior light, headlight buzzer switches?

Featured Replies

On an 05 Fabia vrs, are there multiple (2?) switches which deal with the interior light, kerb light and buzzer which sounds if you leave your headlights (or indicator) on and open the door?

Mine does neither the interior light or buzzer, but does the kerb light, so I'm guessing there are 2 switches and one's not working, or perhaps one wire which handles the pair which aren't working.

The switch on the roof lights is in the correct position (they come on when the ignition is switched off which proves the bulbs are OK too).

I'm thinking this should be a simple fix.....

Ideas appreciated.

Thanks

Chris.

Do the interior lights not work only when you open the driver's door, or do they also not come on when you open the front passenger door?

If they come on when the passenger door is opened then it sounds like faulty switch/connection/wiring to or from the driver's door.

If they don't work when the passenger door is opened as well, then it is either a fault in the wiring between the lights and the control unit, a faulty connection in the interior light unit itself, a faulty connection at the control unit, or the control unit itself is faulty.

Everything works fine from the passenger door, the issue is with(in) the drivers door electronics.

The most annoying part is that after unlocking the car and getting in, its not tripping the "drivers door has been openend" function so it locks itself after whatever the delay is.

Managed to find a few threads which imply there is a common issue with the PCB inside the door mech which either fractures or has solder connection issues, leading to errors like this. Or, if I'm lucky just the microswitch which knows the door has been opened, but I don't know how many of these there are, as clearly one is working for the puddle light to work at the correct time.

Not sure if the door lock unit is the same in Fabia as Octavia mk1's but thats the exact same symptoms that i had with my octavia elegance. The drivers door lock unit had to be changed, and it cured it all!

IIRC the switch is part of the lock unit as well on the Fabia, and is not available separately. I thinks it needs to be replace as a whole.

That sounds like Skoda!!! LOL

I paid approx £80 for my door latch mechanism on the Octavia. Fiddly to change but not impossible for the average guy at home.

Thanks guys, I'll look at getting a new latch mech and see what happens.

I had to do the window regulator on my Ibiza which involved getting pretty close to the latch mech so at least its farmiliar ground.

On the Fabia is there a metal inner skin on the door which has the window regulator attached or can you get at the latch mech without having to lift the window out?

Thanks

Did you manage to fix this?

The lights-on warning buzzer on mine doesn't work, but everything else does - including the door-open tell-tale in the MFD. The sounder itself definitely works as it's the same noise as is made for some other warnings. The car knows the door is open, and teh lights are on, but it doesn't sound the warning. It's VERY annoying.

Are your low fuel and frost warning beeps also duff? The buzzer is apparently integrated into the instruments and is a very expensive fix since you can't replace just the part.

Unfortunately both the low temperature chime and the fuel low warning buzzer both work fine. Something very odd is going on and I can't figure out what.
