Featured Replies

oh great!! Everytime there is one of those i spend half the day on the phone to my IT dept with server trouble!!! :( I just cant wait!!!

k :)

oh goody , 3 laptops to update :(

I never really have a problem with them. At work we deploy all updates to all workstations and servers using WSUS and so far never had a problem. At home, again its always been fine.

famous last words there, i hope you touched wood when you typed this ;)

I assume this affects Windows 7 RC too?

Yup.

I'm running Linux...

OK, we've got Win at home too, so I'll get my share. But 13 bulletins doesn't sound that bad compared to the number of patches you need to download after a fresh install... and it depends on the size, Five patches of a few 100 KBs each are nothing compared to the "cumulative security updates" for IE/Outlook that are regulars....

currently updating all 3 laptops now

Oh Joy, just about 4000 servers to do now.:(

I just downloaded the updates (21MB) and installed no problem (Windows XPSP3)

Seen worse.

My main laptop managed to die today before it could update (Sony Vaio AR41S 17” it was a really nice pooter too:(. Might take it to the menders if they can fix it cheaply.) But this little lappy (Acer thingyjobbie) hasn’t even had a sniff of an update. Is it to be forced at first, or should it auto update?

What's wrong with it?

Won’t boot or even run the recovery disc, just sits there with a dead screen going nowhere :(

Shame as it's got a terrific screen (1920x1200 X-Bright). Might have a look at a PC Doctor nearby, although I am always a bit mistrusting of people who fix pooters:D Got some slightly sensitive material on it, nothing rude, just work stuff.

Can you hear the hard disk spinning when it boots or tries to boot up?

Also does it present you with the option to go into the bios or does it die pre bios?

Just updated and rebooted.

Guess what? Outlook is currently downloading 25.8Mb in the form of 276 old emails going back for months  ***

Anyone else had this? Why has it happened

*** Later: the emails go back to April 2007!

*** 10 mins later: HELP. The same 276 emails have been downloaded again!

Nothing boots or loads…………………..just the dreaded Beep, beep, beeeep! I associate that with hardware failure. Dropped it off at the lappy doctor and he had a quick check that the memory wasn’t dead and tried to boot with no memory and also with fresh memory…….nothing. Silent apart from the fan. Back to pick it up now as he is just round the corner. Sounds bad. Will start a fresh thread when I get back as I don't want to hijack this one.

you might have to go to Windows update Amanda, to get the downloads on the Acer

Thanks Ric, this is a link to my dead laptop thread (thanks for letting me piggy back this one Westerdam)

As predicted, the updates have deployed to the desktops today without a hitch. I also updated the Domain Controllers this morning, and have had no problems at all today. The next test for me is 03:00 Sunday morning when all the other servers will auto install the updates and reboot.

Still downloading? I've a distinct memory that I've read something like this before, but can't remember where. Haven't used Outlook for years, so I have'nt got any informed guesses, but:

a) in your account profile, is the box "Leave mail on server" ticked? Try untick and see what happens (this of course means that downloaded mails from now on only exists on your hard disk so backup if necessary).

B) something's gone amiss with yout profile settings. Remove/delete/erase your account from Outlook and delete corresponding files somewhere in the windows folder "documents and settings". Then re-create your account from scratch.

c) Something amiss with your ISP's mail server, then you just have to wait till it's fixed

d) Bill Gates's revenge - you should never have started this thread ;)
