oxygen Lambda errors

Help!

My engine light came on on my octavia RS. When i connected vag-com the following two errors came up.

2 Faults Found:

17524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating: B1 S1: Open Circuit

P1116 - 35-00 - -

17511 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating: B1 S1: Performance too Low

P1103 - 35-00 - -

After i have reset the codes the light went out , but after a few minutes reading again the faults codes with vag-com the faults showed up again.

I did replace my stock airfilter with a K&N replacement recently. But this couldn't be the reason, right?

Is it safe to keep on driving my car, or is it bad for my CAT.

This is not gospel but sensors do play up, alot  . A faulty lambda sensor will make your car run too rich/too lean to try and compensate for a fault that isn't there. Unfortunately a trip to the garage is on the cards but at least if you've visited them and they've said not to worry you're covered.

I wouldn't worry about your K&N but it depends on how arsey your dealers are.

Should be in limp mode with a faulty lambda sensor shouldn't it ?

IIRC Mr Panrix had this very problem last year and went into limp mode....well the car did, but sometimes i have my suspicions....

but sometimes i have my suspicions....
:P

Sounds like the heater element in the lambda probe has gone to me by them fault codes, but a dealer has quite a few simple checks they can carry out with guided function diagnosis on VAS 5051, so pop it in.

Doing loads of lambda probes at the moment for various reasons. 2.0 Octavia is favourite for emission problems, most of which either stem from the cars being pootled about in on short journeys and never getting hot enough or faulty altitude sensors telling the engine ECU the car is up a bleeding mountain so it tries to compensate all the time.

It wont go into limp home, it just defaults to around 0.4v which is a mid range signal and puts the engine management light on. Car usually just splutters a bit or feels down on power.
