New Octavia on the way

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm taking delivery of a new Octavia 1.6 TD CR company car in the next few weeks, looking forward to it, it can only be better than the Renault Migraine it replaces

Are there any points/issues to be aware of ?

I've trawled through various reviews and one of the few negative things I've come across is this

'In winter, must only use Skoda approved screenwash, otherwise rear screenwash pipes can pop off filling spare wheel well with washer fluid. Skoda dealers often want £100 to fix even when car is under warranty.'

from HonestJohns car by car breakdown, but that's the only place - is there any truth in it, or is it another urban myth ? - does the screenwash make a blind bit of difference, or is it a potential fault whatever ascreenwash you use ?

Sounds like utter crap. I had a pipe go on my old Leon FR and no troubles with warranty then. I certainly didn't use OEM wash.

However, if you put Jif in there I think they may be a problem :D

Just buy the VAG stuff - got two 1L bottles for £4.50 from local VW place - Skoda ones want £5 each find a VW dealer and go to parts counter and ask nicely a lot cheaper. Comes in the group bottle.

From what I've read VAG one is made by Sonax but cheeper from VW.

Thanks James - I'll have look round, but I'm in no rush to pass any cash to the local VW dealer after the appalling experience i've had with them in the past !

I wish you could buy a box by mail order too.... It seems after they rip you off buying a VW some parts a lot cheeper from the local dealer than Skoda, guess life but...

I've been there as well - though to be fair my local VW dealers seems to be getting more customer focused.

Re screenwash, GSF Car Parts sell the OEM VW screenwash, for less than the VW parts desk. You might view TPS Trade Parts Specialists as too close to the VW group for your comfort but they sell it too. I use the stuff in both my Octavia and my 12 yr old Golf. It does work and seems to leave the screen cleaner than Halfords' stuff. Doesn't go mouldy in the reservoir like the Halfords stuff either :thumbdwn:. That really does block washer jets!
