Welcome to the site :)

If you send me your Columbus, I'll generously buy you a nice in car DVD player as a swap, and maybe thrown in an iPod too.

Sound like a fair deal? ;)

Buy her an ipod with video capability and a set of headphones. It'll most likely prevent a fatal accident and get you home in one piece :)

I'm not being nasty or anything but its a genuine risk if you can see something interesting going on in the form of a movie that is designed to be entertaining. This is made all the worse if you are stuck behind the steering wheel for 4 hours at a time. There are ways around it but seriously don't bother, it's not worth it.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way :o

I do agree actually.

I used to have a JVC head unit with a 3.5" screen for DVDs. Grounding 1 wire rather than hooking it up to the hand brake as you were meant to, gave DVD playback when the vehicle was moving - and it was very distracting.

I *think* it's also illegal but someone will probably correct me on this.

EDIT: illegal in the UK that is, just noticed where you're from.

Not sure if its a switch on the hand brake in the octavia or a speed pulse,

If its a switch on the hand brake, short it out at the headunit, it then thinks the handbrake is on or if its speed pulse, simply disconnect

This was on a 03 Leon.

The octy2 and columbus detects the movement of the car via canbus direct into the headunit. DVD in motion can be done by adding a third party interface (about £100) to the columbus which blocks the canbus signal when in motion. However, there is a side affect as the columbus does not sample GPS data at regular intervals and relies on the canbus data to calculate the cars position between these samples What this means is when using NAV or map view your position will jump along the road, and if navigating could miss a turning.

I dont know what the regulations are in Norway, but if caught in the UK watching TV/DVD or anything simillar here whilst driving leads to a long period of no driving license. If you want this to work for rear seat passengers (which is fine BTW) the columbus has a video out on the back to drive external screens which does not blank out when driving.

Many thanks, i dont want to fu... up the nav, so she can just look at the smoothe leather seats and be happy... Thanks again.... I did how ever find somthing on youtube, a simple trick. I wil try it and get back on the result..

The simple trick does work, but each time you touch any button on the Columbus while viewing a DVD it disables the screen and you need to re-aply the trick.

I SOOOO had to refrain ..........

Hi, not wanting to hijack the thread, could Mannyo let me have the auxilary av outputs for the rear screens please as my kids lurve Peppa Pig and the only way to keep 'em quiet is to put the DVD on in the columbus. Not interested in watching it in the front, just for the kids in the back.

Thanks in advance....
