17705 gone for one week.........

Featured Replies

Been having problems for months with my vrs going into limp mode..... no warning lights just down on boost until you key off and back on.

Got myself a liquid gauge which confirmed fault code 17705 and proved I was only getting 0.5bar boost until I keyed off, then was getting 1.5bar boost (peak).

I checked all the boost hoses, the hoses under the inlet manifold and overhauled the DV but just the same, and the problem seemed to be getting worse as the outside temp was falling.

Last week I read chicken eyebrows excellent guide, and decided to cleaned the throttle body, I was almost certain it would'nt be the TB as my car is very low mileage, but I'm happy to say I was wrong :)

The engine is so much smoother than before and for one week since I've not had the infamous 17705 fault code reappear :D

Couple of small points I would like to raise to help anyone doing a TB clean (if I may).

Cover the alternator and auxillery drive belt to prevent contamination with carb cleaner, also when refitting the TB to the manifold check to ensure the TB is aligned to the inlet manifold and gasket (if you dont you may end up with a 1.5mm misalignment due to the over size holes in the TB).

You can do this by placing an object on the throttle pedal and turning on the ignition which will open the throttle butterfly valve, use a mirror and torch to check the alignment of the TB to the manifold.

With the four TB allen screw bolts finger tight move the throttle body up down, side to side as required to elimminate visible steps between the TB and manifold, then tighten the bolts, job done

Thanks Nick

If I have any more probs with 17705, I'll get a new MAF

Weird how cleaning the throttle body sorts the problem, but only for a couple of months
