Air Mass - Intermediate problem

Featured Replies

I have an intermediate air mass problem & I am trawling for clues as to what to try

Just before the Cannonball I had a fairly large front mounted Intercooler fitted & the next day had the car re mapped, on the way back from Jabba the ESP light came on (Traction Control etc on the 4x4) , took it to the dealers & it gave a fault as "intermediate air mass" So got a new one fitted, back to Jabba and everything was double checked.

The car was fine for next 4500 miles then the light started coming on again. just replaced the meter again & within 5 miles the light came on so its not the meter.

It seems to always come on between 4500 & 5500 rpm, when youve been running on gentle throttle at about 4000 & as you give it full throttle on full boost & on comes the light BUT this dosent happen every time, I would guess its only a couple of times a week.

Jabba are going to check the car again to see if they can sort it although I guess its un likely to be a map problem, just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts before I trek off to Peterborough again.

One suggestion so far is a possible small air leak on the intercooler pipe work

Would not an air leak be ever present though?

It appears from what the local garage think that its only just a minute amount out to give the error, could be that its only a leak when the Turbo pushes really hard combined with certain temps in the pipework, not sure, but an air leak aparently could cause the problem according to someone who should know. Im at a loss to know what to try

Do you have the latter pipe that goes behind the engine from the metal intercooler pipe to the upper meal pipe (sounds silly I know, cant think how to word it). Get alot of problems with the push fit connector causing leaks. Early ones have now been superceeded with a modded pipe.

Ross,

All I can say is its all new pipes courtousy of Allards, all I can say is they are big Blue Hoses intermixed with Shiny bits.

Do you think an air leak is a plausable reason, the other thing I would add is that from memory its never done it when the boost is turned down although to be fair it dosent get turned down very often, only on long journeys when I want more than 20 mpg!

Bling! Stuart the MaxPower kid! :D
