35 hp chip.

Featured Replies

:confused:Where is the air filter on my octavia 1.4 i want to fit a 35 hp chip,or is it a good idea.

A 35HP chip? Can you clarify exactly what this is meant to do? Please don't tell me it's to try to add 35 horsepower to your 1.4.........

i just wanted to see if it will increase the hp before i put in a bigger one.

On a 1.4 petrol? These sorts of things just lie to the ECU to get it to overfuel the engine and are nothing but dangerous. They can cause bore wash in the worst cases.

My advice - don't. You'll be lucky to get more ponies from a 1.4 without some serious modifications - to get 35 horses you need forced induction. It's easier just to buy a car with a bigger engine, seriously.

:iagree:

35hp from an ecu chip on a 1.4 would be like squeezing blood from a stone. :D

ok lads/ladies very good info thanks for the comments am thing of buy the new superb anyway.

LOL. Agreed. I've chipped 2x NA petrols in my time (both BMW's - an E36 320i straight 6 and an E36 318iS 4 pot) and both were minimal differences to the original drive. It made the 320i a little more perky but that was it - perhaps about 8-10bhp at best and these were pretty good engines.

The main thing they did was advance the ignition timing a tad to give some more torque, and perhaps enhance the fuelling at certain revs but that was it.

The cheapo resistor chips sit in between the MAF and the ECU and just tell the computer that more air is coming in than actually is thus it shoves in more fuel. Terrible and also you'll fail the MOT on HC emissions as the amount of unburnt fuel coming out will be unreal. Not to mention the CAT damage from the same unburnt fuel.

Another thing too - when the car goes into closed loop mode (the lambda sensor kicks in when the engine's warm) the ECU will see a lot of that unburnt fuel and reduce the amount being injected. This may cause the CEL to come on. The car ignores the lambda on WOT though so then the ECU will have no way of telling there's anything wrong and will then shovel fuel in worse than a shovely thing in a shoveling contest that got thrown out for shoveling too much.

I agree, complete waste of time. They work by over fuelling the engine, basically making it run rich. In the old days you could get a simillar effect by driving with the choke out all the time. All these things do is give you a big repair bill when the Cat/Engine/Spark plugs and so on fail prematurly and an emptier wallet due to the extra fuel you will burn.

i was shown a place in kent that could increase my bhp on my 2.0 fsi n/a they claimed they could increase it from 150 to 180 iirc, so i cant see how anyone can claim to get 35 extra from a 1.4??

What you could do to increase some bhp from your car is remove any air restiction or even make a air intake induction/ram, sports filter. remove the cat and have a straight through pipe and have a look and see if there are any performance exhausts for your car (or chuck on a cherry bomb ).

The most i would expect the above to give you is 10hp if i was being very optimistic. The way you drive also determines how the ecu will react and give out the hp, but to get the hp you need to make sure you have good torque.

Personally i would just keep the car for a year or two unmodded and get your ncb's built up and then go for something bigger, oh and dont forget to inform your insurers of any change to the car or you will find they wont cover you in the event of an accident.

I,m considering buying 5x the resistors on ebay for my vrs mk2 , thats another 100 hp, thing is i'm not sure if i connect them in series or parralel, obviously i need to get it right orit will only give me 20 bhp instead .

was considering 10x but thats probably silly , any idea on which way to connect them.

way cheaper than my revo as well .

I was going to buy 1000 qty of resistors at £5 for the lot, 1000 connector pairs for the harness, a reel of black cable and some heat shrink.

£60 ebay tuning chip, thank you please. :D

Dont touch those chip things off ebay unless you want a very big bill

As you say your thinking of buying an Octavia get a diesel one then get it properly chipped you will get 35HP more very easily as you can see by some of the posts on here

I do not think that you should be messing with the engine management if you can't locate the airbox.
