fabia steering sensor?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Thanks for any help with this - am at my wits end.

My fabia has an intermittent steering problem. Light comes on and total loss of power steering. This happens at start and sometimes the light will go off and the PAS works (maybe a check). Sometimes you have to turn it off and on again.

On it's own this is not a total disaster. I am happy to have a look at replacing the steering angle sensor.

Here's the thing... The battery keeps getting drained and I wonder if this could be related. I had a load test done on the battery (which is 7 months old only). Charging up ok (14V+) and battery fully charged. Efficiency of battery a bit low at 66%.

So, is it possible that the sensor problem (assuming thats the problem) is somehow killing the battery? The battery is good enough to start the car most days, but yesterday my wife drove a couple of miles, left the car for 1 hour then it was flat. Even stranger - after 30 minutes (when I tuurned up), the car started first time.

Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. Hope I've provided enough info'?

Oh yes, I noticed that when you turn the steering the headlights do dim and flicker a bit.

Thanks again everyone.

I have this problem with the light coming on too and with loss of power steering, i called into my usual mechanic to have him check to see what the problem was on vag com and it was showing up as the steering rate sensor. My cars going into be serviced on monday by him so hopefully he'll be able to find out what the problem is and ill let you know.
