Auto Locking

Featured Replies

My wife just recently bought her Octavia II Ambiente 54 plate from Vospers in Exeter, and what a nightmare we have had. The car drives lovely but it has got squeaky windows which has taken them over a week to sort out, we have also spoken to them about the Auto-locking when the car reaches 15 kmh but they have come back to us and said they have looked on the net and don't think the car has it:mad: We spoke to our local dealer Murrays who have said for about £80 they can hook it up to find out for us what a rip off. I am trying to get the Vospers service department to do the correct thing and hook it up to a VAG-COM system.

I will try and update if I get anywhere with them. I am so close to just giving them the car back for a refund because their service department and aftersales is a big pile of c**p.

Plenty of people here have VAG-COM, post up your location and you might find someone willing to help you out.

Oh, and welcome!

Yup, I'm sure one of us near you could help you out ;)

It's a piece of p*ss to do with VAG-COM, I've done it on my Octy. My car now locks at ~15mph (~ because interally the car's computers all work in metric), then unlocks again when I take the key out of the IGN.

I've also changed it so that a single transponder button press unlocks everything, no more double-pressing to open the boot for me. It was annoying as standard because I have to put something in the boot 90% of the time and standing there in the rain trying to double-press in a hurry was a bit hit & miss sometimes...

I assume you have a mk1 riph72? As the Mk2 has a boot release button.

No, I have a mk2. If I used the boot release button, I'd still have to operate another button to open the driver's door, which would only be slightly less annoying than having to do the double-clicky thing (and then find out I didn't quite time it right whilst getting wetter if it's raining!).

I really like it the way I have it now. One press and I can open the boot, chuck my work stuff in, then hop in and go. Car auto-locks as I drive away. When I get to work, pull the key out of IGN and car fully unlocks.

Only downside is someone could rob my stuff from the boot when I'm departing/arriving if they are quick and I'm half-asleep, but it's a risk worth taking for me

Lot of money but then you didn't buy the car from them so just covering labour for them !

I am not sure if they would do it cheaper or free if bought from them, but probably so.

I don't think you'd expect the same rights as a result (oh I just noticed its used as well, in which case this applies evenmore so cos youd get a limited warranty to sort these kind of things out)

Ive had the same problems with the original main dealer, slightly different situation, but I'm happier to pay where necessary and get a better service, than continue to get a shoddy or inadequate response from them, or just be worried that they don't relate to my problems and questions about the car.

You can always phone about to find your favourite dealer. I do think its best to stick with one based on price and service though, it doesnt do any favours to keep switching about, better to build a relationship.

Nevertheless I think someone with VCDS here would be a good bet surely, probably easier and cheaper

I think you need to put it into context though, squeeky windows and a fixable coding on the locking aren't the worst problems in the world and I think would make a difficult case for refunding on the car (unless you were planning to return and lose cash), hardly a major malfunction is it.
