Fitting cruise control on VRS

Featured Replies

I have a 55 plate octy Rs and was wondering whether I can buy a new stalk with the cruise control button on it. Fit it and switch on with VAGCOM and work.

Is this possible?

Cheers

There are two additional wiring looms that need to be fitted to the car as well as the new stalk. The loom has to be spliced into the main loom to the ECU. I took it to a local VW specialist and it still took them three attempts to get it to work!

Probably doable yourself but needs a couple of specialist tools to splice the loom into the main ECU plug. I was happy to pay £50 to have someone do it for me (£115 in total with parts).

As above, the 1.8T doesn't have the wiring to the ECU so it must be fitted as well as the stalk. Reasonably intrusive as you'll need to take the wiper linkage out etc to access it.

Is this the full kit as want to also do this

Here

No, as the ad mentions this kit is not suitable for the 1.8T engine. The full kit costs a bit more and includes extra wiring looms. Apparently the seller has this kit in their shop.

Was looking at cruise control myself and came across this genuine VAG & £74.51:

Skoda Octavia 1.8T, 1.4 & 1.6 16v - Cruise Control Kit on eBay (end time 22-Nov-09 19:00:00 GMT)

with fitting instructions here (for a Golf, but says also for Octavia Mk1):

They may be of use to you.

I'd like to fit cruise control my Mk1 VRS 1.8T, but the sound of specialist tools to splice into the loom/connectors fills me with horror - far too easy to get wrong.

Plus it needs a VAG-COM change (I'm new & don't know what this means yet, but assume it is the dealer test/programming kit).

Although I'd like to have a go at anything, this sounds far too risky until I know more or find a full write up on it by someone here.

A half-way house for me would be to do the non-specialist bit (eg remove everything for access) and get someone in for the specialist bit (I live in Redhill, Surrey where the nearest dealers are about 25 min away).

An alternative would be to wait until I visit my parents in North Wales where labour rates are half what they are here.

All in all, I think I'll leave it until I've met someone who's done it.

Cheers,

Ian

Fire off a PM to shark_90 (Shark Performance - site sponsor) - Ben should be able to give an indication of how tricky it might be.

If you were willing to travel to Mansfield sometime I'm sure he'd sort you out

There are several guys on here who can do this. I'll let them advertise their own services. Not sure who is closest to you.

I had mine done. About £180 all in (but this was a couple of years ago). Very pleased with the result.

Awesome will do it for £149+vat
