VRS, Changing drives, shocks bushings etc...

Featured Replies

Hi people.

I have boxes full of new parts to fit my Vrs including, FSD shocks, Upgrade wishbone bushes, CV joints, wheel bearing (Front only) and ball joints.

Does anyone have and handy tips or clues to help me along as I'm going to do it all myself. I am very mechanically minded and work with tools everyday but, the nearest I've gotten to all this on a vrs is changing springs!

A few questions I can think of straight off are-

Whats the easiest way to to pull the bottom of the shoch out of the hub mounting?

Those clips on cv boot - How do you close new ones?

Do bearings need to be pressed in and out?

Thanks Fugs!

hi mate,

to get the old shock out the hub, spray liberally with penetrating spray and have a skoda hub splitting tool to hand, its basically a cam that fits in a slot and prises the hub open from the rear. Costs 16ish from skoda:mad:

I would use jubilees on the cvs as i think those clips require a sperate tool, and bearings generally need pressing in and out, you could probably butcher them out with a drill but a press would make it much easier.

I have uprated tt bushes and a whitline adjustable castor adjuster bush in my wishbones as the vrs ones are proned to become sloppy, cupra r ones work to iirc.

Have a look through some of our old posts for info about uprated front ends and suspension.

I have all parts and everything sweedish. I nearly have it all off and actually used gas and a chisel to get the shock out.

I have a tool for crimping the clips and I'm not to keen ob jubilee clips as the are not strong and are an off balance wieght.

Just use some pincers to crimp the CV clips up.
