2001 Octavia vRS lock/window etc problems

Featured Replies

Yes, I know it's been covered before, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me work out what's wrong with my car

It has a dealer fit cobra alarm which gets its arming signal from the can lock information from the convenience unit behind the dash. Recently, it was locking/arming fine, but not unlocking all doors, usually the drivers door would remain locked, but sometimes it would be others too. This left the alarm active, and I was unable to disarm the alarm so it went off when you opened the door and would only disarm at random. Then the interior light started doing random things, the relays in the convenience unit would click at will, the fuel pump wouldn't prime when I opened the drivers door, windows wouldn't work etc.

Then I noticed that it seemed to work fine, when the car had been running for about half an hour (presumably something had got warm and expanded to make good enough contact). I then re-soldered all the joints (and chips and transistors) on the convenience board, which seemed to help. Until it cooled down again.

I've taken the drivers door apart, can't spot anything wrong, no dodgy connections, no broken wires, nothing of note. No amount of wiggling cables helps.

I've now taken the convenience unit out of the car because I can't have the car locking and unlocking at random. Now, the car always seems to think that a door is open when it's not!

So do I have a faulty convenience module AND a door unit, or is there a dodgy ground? (where do they ground to? I've cleaned the ground behind the kick panel and the ground to the left of the convenience module)

It's doing my head in now, with no convenience module in the car, I have central locking (except the boot, which does nothing) but no deadlocking, I've got no windows and no interior lights.

Can anyone suggest anything I've missed?

Hi

did you remove the plug from the window motor and check for corroded teminals?

had problems with my drivers door lock and elec wing mirror.

Then the interior light started doing random things, the relays in the convenience unit would click at will, the fuel pump wouldn't prime when I opened the drivers door, windows wouldn't work etc.

faulty microswitches on the drives door lock might be causing some of these issues. iirc normally a dry joint on the circuit board.
