New brakes and tyres

Featured Replies

Just had the MOT done and was told the front tyres are border line and so are my brakes alround. Im not a racer and average under 5k a year.

I'm going for the Pirell P6000 for the fronts form Elite tyres. Does the 91V or 91W make any real difference as i dont drive over 80?

Brakes im not too sure about. Was thinking of just going to GSF and getting whatever they had. Any opinions on this? I dont need performance sports brakes however recongnise the superb is a heavy car so will wear the breaks out quicker (depends on my foot as well!:))

Original ATE Pads and Discs have stood me well.

They really do bite hard when needed though!

The speed rating for the tyres are mandated by the manufacturer, so to comply with what your insurer expects of you and so to retain insurance cover, I think that you should stick with what Skoda fitted at the factory - there is more to "speed rating" than just the maximum speed you expect to end up travelling at.

As said ATE discs from ECP and maybe Pagid front pads and Textar rear pads from GSF if you want to stick closer to what was fitted at the factory - but I did use ATE pads once on my Passat B5 (no anti-squeal stuff on rear ones though - so it sounded like a taxi most of the time - a bit annoying when the sun roof was open!).

Thanks guys

Will go with the Pagid fronts and rear from euro car parts (forgot they were closer than GSF). Skoda Superb Brake Pads - Euro Car Parts UK?s No.1 Car Parts Retailer

Still unclear on the tyre ratings though. The superb had 91V's when i bought it second hand. Not too sure if that is the standard on them?

I have the V6 TDI and the speed rating of the tyres were 91Y. However a Tyre dealer just off the M4 when I had a puncture and knackered the tyre as I didn't know I had a puncture fitted a 94V. he said this was a higher rated tyre and would be ok. I believe the loading rating is higher (94) but the speed rating is lower. I have not noticed any difference driving the car - but again I do generally stick to speed limits and a max 70mph or just a nudge above.

I'd be iffy about different rated tryes, were both axis tryes changed or just the one tyre?
