Newbie looking for a headsup...

1.9 TDI is the most economical, and probably the most prevalent second hand so you shouldn't have much trouble finding plenty of examples to choose from

The current brochure quotes the following mpg for the 1.9 TDI manual hatch:

Urban: 44.8

Extra urban: 67.3

Combined: 57.6

This is true...the 1.9 may be old but still a strong reliable and good milage car...Had two in the past but moved on to new 1.6 CR TDI very good but pricey to start with.:o:D

Just had a ride in the back of a 1.9TDi taxi. Very nice it was too. Just the base model but still comfy. Loads of room. (Must get my wife to chauffeur me around in mine - never been in the back except to vacuum out the kids' crumbs!)

The cabbi extimated his did around 37-40 in city traffic all day long.

HTH.

i had a sit in the back of a octavia hatchback taxi and thought the seats quite hard, and from the driver seat quite a small cabin compared with my old 04 reg mondeo tdci 130.

maybe i need a superb! lol

The salesman might want to compare the Octavia with a Passat, but the Octavia shares the same floorpan as the Golf and not the Passat.

I thought it sad he kept saying "you know its really a volkswagen and a passat this year would cost more"

i think a Skoda can stand alone quite well without needing to fall back on its group owners and source of bits...
