Skoda Octavi TDi CR VRS - what to look for

Featured Replies

Think i have decided on the diesel and going for the CR engine as opposed to the PD engine as i believe it is the better engine without the DPF.

Is there anything else i should be looking out for?

Are there any common faults etc or reoccurring problems?

The CR170 engine still has DPF as does the PD

Oh dear. Name and shame in my opinion.

The DPF is indeed also fitted to the CR but I personally believe that it won't have to work as hard (regen not required as often) as on the PD. My missus HDi produced practically no soot at all and that had no DPF, whereas my Fabia could coat the rear of the car in a fine black film in a few miles. Also every PD I've followed (pre DPF) has always been a bit smoky, especially as they come on boost. This is a variety of Passats, Fabias, Leons etc.

I'm reckoning that due to the greater precision allowed on the CR units when injecting the fuel that hydrocarbon emissions are lower thus making less work for the exhaust.

Just a thought....
