AUTO.CZ test 1.2 TSI 26.10.09

Featured Replies

The new Yeti 1.2 TSI is tested by AUTO.CZ

I assume this will be a production version rather than the preproduction model as tested earlier in the year.

Appear very impressed overall with the engine; the only slight negative I picked up being fuel consumption if you have a 'lead foot'.

Obviously need a translation tool such as Google translate.

In summary they say:

- 1.2 TSI sounds too small at first sight, but really is an optimal base engine for the entire automotive industry, not just Yeti.

- Engine development and production was one of the key tasks of Skoda Auto and will be supplied to VW, SEAT and Audi.

- Very low engine weight due to aluminium construction (89.5kgs)

- Same top power as a normal 1.6 but difference is like that between "two generations of diesel engines"

- Engine is a "joy to use" acellerating strongly from idle and smooth up to 5000 RPM (although that is not needed) 80MPH in 6th gear is about 3000 RPM.

- Consumption varies largely with driving style (as with most TSIs I think)
