How do I take remote apart to change the battery

Featured Replies

I am so sorry to ask such a basic question but I think the battery needs changing in the remote control for my Fabia (03). I have to stand right next to the car to make it work.

I was told there is a battery in the remote that I can easily change (easily !!) but I cannot see how to get the thing apart (blonde moment!!) It is the type with the three buttons on front and the flip out key. Not sure if I should prize the case in two parts or whether the bottom slides off. I cannot get it apart and really would be grateful for any advice on how this thing comes apart.

Thank you and sorry again for such a basic question.

Not a daft question at all :)

1. Press the button to flip out the key.

2. Turn the key fob so the metal key stick out to the right and the channel that the key fits into is facing you. (The Skoda badge will be facing up)

3. Look closely inside the channel. It is split vertically. On the left hand side of the vertical split, it is also split horizontally.

4. Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the horizontal split and twist. They key fob will come apart, revealing the battery.

5. The replacement battery is a 3 volt CR2032 'button cell' and is commonly available.

6. Replace the battery with the + side facing down.

There's some pics here, if that helps:

(it's a VW key, but the steps are identical as shown)

Got to add a belated thanks for this, helped me with the same problem. Couldn't find spare key either, so a quick trip to Argos saved me some hassle. :)

Really? There are tons of vids on YouTube on how to do this.

Google is your friend

It's also well illustrated in the manual

EDIT - the VW link above is good too

No idea where my manuel is at the moment either.

Would do if i wasn't on my iPhone. Thank you for your help and shows the search function is useful after using it and finding an old thread that helped me.

Sorry, no offence intended. :(

Think you have read the above few posts a bit wrong.

Maybe have another read and see what you think.

Sausage.

I've removed one such post to the OP sausage roll. ;)

Think you have read the above few posts a bit wrong.

All people have done is point to places to find further info on how to do this i.e. youtube, google & your manual. Then when you said you didn't know where your manual was, a helpful link was posted to download one.

TBH I can't see any "smartar$e" comments here except for your latest post.

Maybe have another read and see what you think.

Wasn't me, thankfully. ;)
