Power Steering light

Featured Replies

Hi Forum members,

For some reason the steering wheel icon on the instrument panel has an amber light on it up after driving around on the weekend. I've turned the engine off and on and it's still there, I haven't change the battery or anything like that so I'm a bit mistified.

I've checked the manual and it says "Yellow warning light lights up, this indicates a partial failure of the power steering and the steering forces can be greater."

Can anyone tell me what the problem could be?

Can I still drive it with the amber light on?

Can I take the car to my local garage or does it need to go back to a dealer?

Another question I have is can anyone tell me where I can find somewhere around the Bromley Kent area who does a 4 wheel alignment, as when I drive over ironworks in the road I can feel the rear of the car give a slight "kick out". I do try and avoid them!! Also does anyone have the correct setttings to cure this?

Tyre pressures and wear are all fine.

My car is a 2005 Octavia II 1.6 FSI Ambiente with 225/45 17 Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

Thanks

It could be a problem with the steering angle sensor.

Switch on the ignition and turn the steering wheel to full lock in one direction and then to full lock in the other direction, this might clear the light.

If the steering is not heavy it's OK to drive, but get the fault codes scanned to find out what the problem is.
