Yup.

Currently 20% free after a day of watching stuff (was 2% this morning). I'll take some before and after shots as well as some how to pics incase anyone else is pondering.

Good luck with your upgrade! I keep meaning to get round to doing my HD box - waiting for a good deal on the right disk. :)

Just one thought, I wouldn't bother too much about documenting the process - there's a lot of guides online already... Not that people wouldn't appreciate it but think of the energy you'd save! ;)

Some pictures might help though, esp the drive for the doubters that say AV drives.

Well drive went in. WD5000AAKB from ebuyer.

Was @ 24% free, now 84% free. An hours program now takes approx 0.333% despite saying they're 1% each (the box deals only in whole %'s).

Took me about 3 hours due to one of the USB drive links acting up initially, but once running the removal and copy process using skycopy+ took around 90 mins. All recordings an planned programs are all there still.

Now the box boots quicker (3 min rather than the old 20 after a crash), the drive is between 1/3-1/2 the noise of before. In fact the fan is now the only noise you actually notice. Switching channels gives less blue screen time, and if planning a program say 7 days in advance, no more waiting for the planner to populate. It's all there! When FFWD or RWD at x12 or x30 it no longer skips. You see the actual recording just at a faster speed. Spins down much faster, and assuming due to the 16mb cache, stays on for less time when the box is in standby. The old drive made a hefty whirring noise and clunk every spin up/down.

Once the forums working again, I'll repost the pics.
