Newbie and new vRS owner

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Joined today, go gentle with me!

New car spec is prepared and will be ordered this Saturday, an early birthday present to myself.

Coming from the Honda camp (Type-R), needed a change so the Octavia vRS is on its way.

Petrol Hatchback with DSG [There is an option to change this hence why I need one more drive on Saturday] in Race Blue with following extras:

Front & Rear parking sensors

Sat Nav

Curtain Airbags

Elec. Sunroof

MDI

vRS Seats

MF Steering wheel

Dimming rear view mirror

Welcome any suggestions, advice, etc, etc from all members.

I'm only a new member myself having joined a few days ago. Sounds

like a great car with an interesting spec. I hope to change to a vRS next time although with a diesel instead of the petrol as I do around 35K per year. I'm definately having the dsg gearbox though. My only comment would be on the factory sat nav. Its a very expensive option and I would personnally always rate a Tomtom over any dealer sat nav. Its cheaper, you can take it into other vehicles and when you sell the car, you still have the unit. You could save alot of cash or have some more extras like xenons (which are directional on the new model), bluetooth & heated seats. Maxidot is also a great option, I'm not sure whether it comes linked with the dsg, but if it doesn't I rate it very highly. You get you fuel computer and a whole host of other functions with it and it doesn't cost too much. Anyway that's just my opinion. Still sound like your in for a lot of fun though!!

Cool spec! ...and in race blue!

Welcome aboard! :)

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I work for myself so I get a £4k fuel allowance 40p for the first 10k miles and 25p a mile for every mile thereafter so petrol is the first choice over diesel but if I was doing 35k a year then I would be opting the other way for sure.

I understand Bluetooth is on the car and having the dealer sat nav just means less leads in the car for me but they both do equally a good job at getting you to where you need to go.

The specification is by no means complete but the local dealer was good enough to load the requirements onto the system twice so I could benefit from the VAT deal that finishes on Saturday, other additions can be changed on Saturday so watch this space for the final specification.

Rich, sounds good mate. If we get the old lot together for an Oxford meet at least there would be 2 skodas on show :)

Would love the diesel version one day, but can't see it happening at the mo so will keep on at the old man. Hope the test drive goes well on Saturday. Will have to let me know and see if we can sort a meet before Christmas

Hi Ben,

Not sure of delivery date on Octavia as yet but I am sure we can squeeze a meet in close to Oxford or alternative location nearer to the festive season.

Will let you know how it goes on Saturday at the weekend.

For a little while longer, don't think I am going to miss mine as much as I first thought. Fed up with the build quality and issues on the FN2, time for a change for sure and the vRS fits the bill.

I only miss the EP3 and DC5 for pure grin factor when the roads are clear. The Fabia is nippy but in a different league. However saving 150+ miles on each tank makes me happier in these difficult times. I guess the FN2 wasn't as good as the EP3 build wise then as I had no problems with mine

Ben,

It was small things that have plagued the car since new, I am guessing this is from its original build at Swindon that has soured the experience really.

There have been a number of issues that I won't go into but it makes you think twice about whether I really wanted another one so I decided to go for a change this time and see what Skoda has to offer, I hope I am not dissapointed.

So do I mate seeing as I keep singing their praises, lol. Mine still needs some work but thats more to do with the woman who owned it before and the dreaded leaking doors but fingers crossed the new ones have sorted it. I saw a nice red one this morning, love the look of the cars and I think they are well specced for the costing

Build slot is next week so I am told so delivery is mid December.

Turns out the business manager at the dealership is one of my old rugby buddies :)

Build has now slipped to week 50 so unless they ship it the same week I can't see it arriving before xmas.

Average seems to be around 3 weeks from build to ownership so unlikely.

Forgot to come back and say I picked the car up on Feb 1st, already 2000+ miles on the clock but loving it :)
