312mm Discs and 16" Steels

Featured Replies

Have tried the search and not finding what i want.

Does anyone know if 16" Steels will fit over the 312mm VRS front discs on a MK1 Octy???

Thanks

Yes they will. Obviously given a sensible offset on the steel wheels you're thinking of.

Fabia vRS owners with the 312mm upgrade run the standard 16" vRS alloys with no problem.

Cheers man.... :D

Yup, I have a set of VAG 16" steels (ET42, 6.5" wide) and they fit.

Just to confirm I run 16" alloys + 312mm on an octy II.

Only thing I'll say is make sure they don't use large balancing weights as the clearance isn't huge.

The spare on the vRS estate is a 16" steel wheel and it fits fine (obviously).

Cheers,

the estate also comes with 16" alloys as standard, quite why i don't know?

It went that the estate didn't have the structural rigidity of the hatch, so they fitted smaller wheels for some reason! The logic doesn't really follow through in my book, but there we go - that's what they did...

Some early hatches also got 16s, think they were all on Y-plates (2001).

The smaller wheels had larger sidewalls, which allows for better bump absorption and thus less twisting of the chassis... HTH.

I'd heard that the 16" wheels were fitted because the the tyres have a higher load bearing capacity since the estate was envisaged as a load lugger.

Also, from what I have read, the estate didn't have to have the internal bracing used in the hatch (behind the seat) precisely because the estae format was more rigid rather than less rigid (owing to square cross section of boot panel preventing chasis twist). This may be wrong but it has been reported elsewhere.

Anyway, all a bit off topic. The bottom line is that 16" steel wheels should definitely fit.
