You bought the car, deal with it!

The dealer didn't actually say that, but may have well. At least I gave them the opportunity. They don't have any camber checking kit, so couldn't say which rear camber angle has been used. The noisy tyres are just down to what's factory fitted ('deal with it' IOW). They put the 'hot bonnet' down to lack of bonnet lining but couldn't say if would adversely affect the paintwork longterm.

They couldn't find a computer option to turn on the nearside rear foglight, which I find hard to believe, nor could they explain the second part of the 'running in' to 'gradually' rev gears to the limit between 1000-1500km. The advice was to ignore it, all very well, but why is in the manual at all?

I think I'll cover myself with a letter to Skoda UK, and cc to the dealer, just in case I get uneven tyre wear consistent with a sub-optimal camber setting, patch fading of the paintwork, or engine/turbo problems related to the 'rev' running-in item.

FYI I was checking my speeds at 2000rpm in each gear. 2nd, 3rd ,4th, 5th and 6th come in conveniently at 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60mph, but at the 6000rpm limit that would equate to 75, 90, 120, 150 and 180mph! Legality apart, 6000rpm may be achievable on the road in 2nd and 3rd, possibly 4th for some models, but for 5th and 6th I think the road wheels would need to be off the deck!

How old is the car?

Did you look into getting an engine pad? I noticed your other thread about the engine heat and thought it seemed like a possible solution if mine did the same. I wondered about asking them for one if it proved a problem. Suggesting it had accidentally been left off and asking where it was!

Of course .. since I haven't actually got the car yet, I don't know if mine will bug me like yours seems to .. have fallen short of your expectations shall we say? Though since I know nothing about cars, unless they leave off the steering wheel, I'm unlikely to notice really.

You can buy a bonnet lining fairly cheaply (comes with the clips too) - about £18 IIRC.

I agree that most dealers quickly lose interest once they've sold you the car.

If it *is* normal and won't affect the paintwork then I can live with it. I suppose it's no hotter than if the car is parked in the sun on a very hot day, but you can choose to park in the shade if that's a problem. With the 'hot bonnet' problem it's not consistent so I can't yet know which particular journeys will end in 'hot bonnet'. I do know it's related to the coolant route to/from the turbo but probably may not affect the 1.8TSI (just the 1.4) as that routing seems to be different.

I'll see what Skoda UK have to say on the matter before *I* do anything, otherwise I may be making the matter worse, if the heat is supposed to be vented rather than insulated with a pad. TSI engines are probably fairly new to Skoda so I may have a wander over to my local VW dealers and check how one sits in a current Golf or Jetta.

It's a noise reduction pad for the dervs and fitting it will keep the bonnet cooler and probably make little difference to under bonnet temps as the whole thing will be cooled by the air being forced through it when moving.

Can someone near you, that has vagcom, sort the DLRs?

You also mention KM's then SUK. I assume you're in Eire?

For curiosity I tried some higher revs now I've passed the 1000km mark. I tried 4000rpm in 3rd and as expected 60mph came up. It did sound 'strenuous'. I don't fancy trying 5 or even 6k rpm in 2nd even for 'curiosity'!

I fancy a bonnet pad. Can you get them for 2008 TSi? Who is a good source of supply?
