110 Diesel Noise from ribbed belt area

Featured Replies

I have a noise on my Dads 110 Octy. Most apparent from cold it sounds like an electrical ticking noise and normally disappears as soon as the car warms up. Makes no odds of the A/C is on or off, I have replaced the belt and tensioner to no avail. The pulleys all seemed quiet when spun by hand but something must be making it. Anyone come across anything similar before?

Thanks

John

Cambelt tensioner, or the aux one? I would suggest if you have not changed the aux one, it might be that - mine rattles a bit, bit placing my finger on it makes it quiet again.

Auxilary one has been changed mate

Probably airco clutch pulley bearing - does not matter if airco is on or off, it's still moving.

Strangely enough, mine did the same a week ago for 3 days in a row, then quietened down. I did open underside and confirmed this, new clutch on order from the US (stlg90 instead of stlg200). Bearing is crimped into the pulley, so replacing just the bearing is not really an option.

Yea I did think about this. The car has already had an A/C pump in its short life (03)

I will have to take the belt off and check again. Where did you get the clutch from? Do you have a link?

Though I have not seen it yet, it's in transit, I'll probably fit it next week.

Keep in mind it could still be some other pulley, so check before you spend the money.

Also, after taking the belt off I could not find anything unusual other that that bearing was very loose (as in excessive play), it was not making noise without the belt. But when I put belt on and gently pressed side of the a/c pulley with the engine running, the noise disappeared. I did check that the noise was definitely coming from that pulley and not eg. tensioner or PS pump.

These pulleys all look similar, but have different offsets / compressor diameters.

To get an idea how many there are, here is a link with description for many a/c and car brands

SANDEN 7 SERISE CLUTCH ASSEMBLIES

I do hope I am getting a correct one...
