Completely & Utterly Hacked - off with Headlight

Featured Replies

What bulb temperature did you go for 5k or 6k?

5k gives out a lot more light IMHO. Also worth noting that the bulbs take a few hours of use to get "burnt in" and IMHO got brigther after a few hours use.

FWIW I took them out (same kit/location as you) and put normal H7 in after i was blinding people even with 2 MOT testing places saying they were fine.

6K - according to the guy at Hids Direct, the 5K bulbs are a bit yellow on this particular kit.

Interesting - didn't know / realise that so I'll keep and eye out for any changes. I have to say i wasn't that impressed with the brightness last night but it was still wet so I'm hoping the drive home tonight will be dark and dry.

Are you sure it was the same kit - WideView. This was £150?

Wideview H7 Smart HID Conversion kits

I have to say I wasn't happy with the alignment of the standard lights - seemed WAY too high from the day I picked it up but nobody flashed me - it just seemed as if the beam was too wide and high but as I knew I was fitting this kit, I wanted to wait to be the done. I'm off to Bolney Grange Garage this evening and believe me, if there is anything out with them they'll tell me. I have a good relationship with the boys there for a reason - they tell you straight and are not afraid to tell you when they think something needs attention. I'll let you know the outcome but I think it will be a re-align.......

Not sure what HIDS Direct are on about there, 6K is 6K, 5K is 5K.....

Standard OEM xenons are actually 4300k and give the highest light output. They are pure white and are still a long way from the 'yellow' of halogens.

I started with 6K and went over to 4300k because I didn't want to look like numpty who'd fitted thoes crappy 'blue' halfords specials....!:P

Also Monkeyman's correct, the bulbs take a few hours of running to come up to full brightness and colour.

Anyway, glad someone else has 'seen the light' and fitted an aftermarket Xenon kit. Best upgrade I've ever done and is soooo easy on the Octavia (once you've got the headlamp connector off ;)).
