I reckon you'd get something like a early 90's Audi Coupe for that?

Saw the odd 80 under 1k?

ford v8 pilot for me.

I found this BMW 525i

It ticks almost every box.......

You said has to be manual and it's an automatic!!

Been having a good squiz at it myself as i quite fancy having 6 cylinders and a bt more space to haul stuff with.

My thoughts lead me to Munich also :)

Can't think of much else I'd actually like to own, given the requirements and budget. MX-5 definitely, if you discount the motorway bit (although it's perfectly fine, I'd maybe limit it to stints of 90 mins as you start to get a numb bum and a bit of back ache!). Also, how much space is required? Passenger limit an issue?

I'd be less worried about something Jap on the reliability front for this money, definitely. I would look around at E30/36 3-series, to get a feel for how they're faring overall at this money, and look at possibly spending more if necessary, to get a better standard of car. No point in my book of getting something at budget, only to have to throw money at it to keep it running, or get to a standard I was happy with.

Let us know how you get on

Bit steeper than the orig 1000 budget you were after but might be worth a look and it's a manual!!

That's mega cheap for that car, especially with that age and mileage. I either smell a rat, or the bidding will go northwards!

Under 1k? Or around 1k should I say?

That is a find! Auto box is the downside, hmm

Yeah, have to admit at the moment leaning towards several good reviews of the MR2 2.0 N/A... minus the off leaky T-bar roof they seem spot on, I agree on the money front, id rather spend say £1,500 on a car that is going to work, than £800, then spend the same again getting it too work. As for space etc, none really. Dont need it for a family outings, taxi service or anything. 2 seats and a steering wheel :)

As above, awesome motor, will go to 2k however easy IMHO.

Will now go back and thank everyone, as just realised id been rude and not!

I'm still the highest bidder on it currently.

I know what you mean about 2k as my mech wants to sell his Beemer 528i auto on an R reg for about 2k.

are these cam chains or belts on the Beemers?

Looks like im leaning towards a MR 2 unless someone can put me off then!

which shape MR2?

People love them.

I know someone who sold one for a VXR and then the 350z and he still misses the Toyota

It's a chain driven that one Captain :)

MK2 Rev2 as a general rule of thumb

Looking at one at the minute, Rev2 but with a Rev3 engine in it, insuance is nothing, and with a light foot been told 30mpg is just about possible? So not to shabby I guess :D

Would you consider a Celica? Find a good one and they really do last forever. I have a colleague with over 300k miles on his and he runs it on a shoestring. Think they might be fwd though :(

I think they are either 4 or FWD the Celicas.

my grandad has my ideal car for this criteria, his is a j reg sierra, lovely motorway cruiser, his is spotless, hes owned it from new and on only 59000 miles. not sure what they're worth but got to be less than £1000. ok i don't know if i'd buy any other sierra cause they're old now and probably rusted, but grandads if it stays as spotless as it is now its definitely going to be a classic in a few years

On the Celicas, yes - the majority are FWD, they've never been RWD. You will find some 4WD GT-4s around, but unlikely at this price point unless it's knackered :)

Good shout though, do like them and there will be some around at this budget. I also don't see that many about, especially the earlier ones.

Wonder if there's any suitable Supras around too :rubchin:

Thats a good shout, was down at Santa Pod last month and alot of them were down there, so did infact sign up as ran against a few of the newer ones. They had some older ones there too that were still running strong.

However, exactly. FWD for my price range, and then its not that much different to the Ibiza I guess?

Id imagine its hard to find one in such good nick as your grandad's! I do want something that a little bit of motoring history so agree, possible classic!

Nail on head, the 4WD jobbies will cost to much, rest are FWD. I was looking at years ago the MK3 cheesewedge supra, most are auto's however :(

Good find, I do want one, more than a MR2 just as I think they are rarer, but that makes it harder to find a manual!!

dont get a pug 306 they are a money pit, partner had one and it always needed something doing

Mine had 134k on and was mechanically perfect, ok I only did 15k in it but apart from some tyres it didn't cost a penny...

A bit ordinary though, MR2 would be winning it for me.

Tom, I agree! T-Bar for that one summer day we get next year to act like "Bandit" :D

T Bar roof is great imho, not sure what they are like for leaks though? My mate has one (in that pale blue colour) and with the roof off its great! He's even got the original storage bag, and they don't take up much space either when stored :)
