T Bar roof is great imho, not sure what they are like for leaks though? My mate has one (in that pale blue colour) and with the roof off its great! He's even got the original storage bag, and they don't take up much space either when stored :)

Ive heard they can leak sometimes, so wanting leather just to be on the safe side ;)

Your mate is selling his is he? :)

I've had a 1.8LX for a year. Easy and cheap to fix, surprisingly the hanbook states that it'll do over 50mpg at 56mph, certainly on a trip to Wales at more than 56mph, I got approaching mid 40s mpg.

For arond £100, I upgraded to remote central locking and heated front seats, for another £40 the sunroof opens at a touch of a button.

If you can find a looked after/non rusty example, you can't go wrong.

The original GT wheels look like this:

Someone up the road from me was selling a Sierra, an estate I think

Nope. Funnily enough its his dad who runs the mega-miles Celica...

He did say the originals were included as well - far better than the chav-specials that are shown.

I just think a old school ford would be lost on me, I wouldnt look at it and see what a good ford fan will see! So might get soem jap crap for abit :D

I missed that bit!!!

That Ford looks good but since seeing that BMW estate im feeling compelled to join the dark side...... (yes I know it's white!)

Dont know if they have been mentioned before ?

Mitsubishi Starion, Nissan200/240sx or even a toyota corrola(ae86)

I know they are ricey & probably a bit over budget but if you found one that needed some work it might be worth it?

* my mate had a white ford sierra estate picked it up for under 1k been garaged all its life cant remember the milage but it was low!

Great for carrying large bit's of timber & a bit of a laugh to drive in an odd kind of way.

How about:

HONDA PRELUDE 2.2 VTI MANUAL! FULL LEATHER !! MOTEGI!!! on eBay (end time 31-Oct-09 18:11:03 GMT)

Didn't meet reserve and BIN was 1750, but you get the idea. I'd really quite fancy one of these. I drove a std 2.0 a few years ago and was surprised at how nicely it drove and how tight it still felt.

I'd go for the 2.2, with VTEC - like the one above. Pretty sure this was the one with 4WS too....

OK, it's FWD, but a really quite nice one, especially for the cash.

EDIT And a bit of precedent as well:

Good shout Steve!

Bloody hell they are cheap now! Think my dad has wanted a MG for 40 years in that colour, however dont think its that one, no doubt a earlier version! Good find, tempting... but still rather MX-5 girly like? without the RWD too? (are these FWD?!)

Was put off by anything Nissan 200SX like, due to a mate having nothing but issues with what looked like a minter at the time of sale, no doubt his own abuse but still!

Liking the Corrola idea, rare tho?

Honda : 'Rare Honda Prelude 2.2Vti Vtec (200Bhp) Manual

Now thats a car again I wouldnt really have considered, and the 2.2 wouldnt be slow id guess! I do have a mate with I think the 2.0 version, might see what he thinks!

Rev3 MK2 have 180bhp, and probs a tad lighter, and RWD tho.... still tempting me!

The Prelude would end the discussion for me I think, as an overall package. 2.2 VTEC is 185 in this instance, so yes - would run along quite nicely :)

Do you mean a Rev3 MR2? :D

I think looking in this area I'd try to find an honest Mk1 (NA) MX-5. If I was spending my money on weekend toy/fun car then this would have it over the Prelude! It's just finding a good one for this money, as it's about as low as they go (saying that 1k is about as low as anything decent goes!) - saying that Evo bought one for their 'Scrapheap' Challenge this year at this very budget from eBay, and it's still going :rubchin:

Might be a bit tough breaking £400 off, but I'd give it a go!

MG -(are these FWD?!)

Rear drive, mid engined.

Was looking at the price of Honda's CR-X, some of those are quite affordable, but FWD I think?

Other than that, Alfa Spiders convertible are around, a bit over budget, and I don't know about drive, but certainly look nice.

CR-Xs are FWD, just a mildly adjusted Civic Mk3 really :)

A 'proper' Spider is RWD, but they'll be a lot more than 1K! - the 90s version, based on the modern GTV, is FWD - and honestly not that brilliant to drive IMO, although the engines are quite sweet and sound good.

Wardy, nope a MK2 Rev3 (MR2!) haha :D

Cheers guys, will update if my work pay me currently at the end of the month so I have the money to spare!

Ah fair enough, wasn't sure either way, but no harm in trying. :)
