So here is a question for you... todays climate.... todays prices....

You have £1,000 to spend on a car..

This car MUST

1. Get you to work and back EVERYDAY.

2. Be £1,000 or UNDER.

Now the hard part....

The future owner would LIKE.

1. It to be retro/ish

2. Comfy on a motorway

3. Manual Box for reason #4

4. RWD.

So what would you get.....

E30 325?

Old Mercedes of some variety, but not a rust E-Class.

Mazda MX5 fits the bill apart from being comfortable on the M'way. But not too bad when you get used to the road noise.

1990 merc 300td, 3.0 straight six turbocharged 138 bhp stock and home tweek the old fuel pump to make 150+. reliable rear drive and comfort all with 40 mpg. sweet.

Yeah having a look on pistonheads it does seem like old school beemer/merc will fit most of it, with the odd MX-5 been thrown in, anyone got any Q cars?

Insurance isnt a issue, or tax. Running costs, well would like it to do 20mpg atleast!

BMW Compact - late nineties:thumbup: or an Omega.

Both fit points 2, 3 & 4...and maybe point 1 depending on what you class as retro:rolleyes:

Granada? Sierra? Senator?

Royale? :D

Omega is a good shout. e30 325i for me, or and e36 325/328

Never driven (for a long period) anything as big as the Omega if im honest. Liking the older beemers but how reliable are they really?

Problem with late 90's BMW's are they are all 316's (assuming thats what shape you mean) and yes I didnt mention anything about power, but id like some please.

There's not actually that much choice given the options.. it pretty much has to be an E30 or E36 beemer. The default Scumball options (next time, if there is one, BMWs are banned!!).

:)I already own what I would choose. Estelle 130GL.

Porsche 944 ? Mine would be an auto though by choice. TG have bought them for less than £1k but they've not lasted very long.

Xr4i good old v6

pug 306 v6 or fiat coupe 20v turbo

pug 306 v6 or fiat coupe 20v turbo

Aren't they driven at the wrong end?

Aren't they driven at the wrong end?

Capri, niccee forgot about them...

Got a few ideas off the other forums too! I love Capri's tho. pistonheads here I come :D

Anymore ideas?

Rover SD1 V8

I know of a MINT Ford Sierra XR4i.....:)

Another shout for the E36 325, my mates dad has got one and sounds ace shame its a auto :(

X reg Omega's can be had with the 2.6 V6 for less than a grand now, not exactly retro....but there damn comfy!

AW11 - Mk1 MR2

The rover would be indeed retro...

Is it worth looking higher up the money tree for something a little better then? £1,500? £2,000? Or stick at the lower end and cheap and cheerful?
