Orange iphone prices.....

Featured Replies

Just received my e-mail from Orange giving me the all important iphone prices ready for launch on November 10th.

Guess what they're the same price plans and phone prices as o2 give at present but cheaper!!!!!

By about 50p!!!!!!! :o

Still think it's the network to go for at present data wise so will probably go with orange unless o2 put the 3GS onto the open offer at which point i'll go o2 and save 30% a month.

Cheers

Dave.

I like the way they're only free on a 24month contract.

The good thing with orange is you get 2 for 1 tickets at the cinema and also 2 for 1 at Pizza Express as well now, but i think 02 has better coverage (in my area anyway) and i also get 30% off a month , thanks John Lewis :P.

I've checked coverage in the places i'd use it most and Orange are better for me. There is one better tarif with Orange though. The cheapest £29 tarif gives double the texts and minutes than o2 give. So for me it'll be a decision between £29 with 150mins and 250 texts or £34 with 600mins and 500 texts.

Also the 3GS isn't on the o2 open deal so you can't get the 30% off thing. Only the 3G is in the open scheme. I work for Network Rail so have the same scheme as yourself.

Cheers

Which is crap IMO. You can get more for your money once you drop the iphone bit.

Remember as well, Orange and Voda's data 'fair usage' are amongst the lowest around. Voda was 900mb, and Orange 500mb last I looked.

Thing is there's nowt on the market that i want or like. I've checked out the current Nokia N and E series, Palms, SE's, LG's and Samsungs and nothing floats my boat. Another chap i work with is in the same boat himself and is also looking at the iphone.

The orange fair usage is 750mb not 500mb a month, (taken from the e-mail they sent me about reserving an iphone for launch day), which may not be much to some hardcore users but ample enough for my use. I also went through my last 6 months bills with vodafone last night and the busiest month for me was last month with 117 texts and 142 minutes used. All the other months neither texts or minutes used went above 100 texts/mins. So it looks like the cheapest tarif could be the one and save me a fiver a month.

750MB of data is nothing, and you can easily reach your allowance without you realising it. A smartphone, ie. iPhone and so on consume a lot of data, things like google maps, youtube, iplayer, push email and so on are massive data consumers. I was suprised how much data I get through on my t-mobile mda compact V, and regularly get close to my 3GB allowance. Dont forget with Orance once you hit the 750MB limit you pay something like £5 per MB after, which can amount to a substantial sum.

I've been using a smart phone for the last 3 years and have never been a massive user.

Anyone know what o2's data usage limit is? As i know a few iphone owners on o2 who haven't had any data usage issues. I know o2 talk about Excessive usage but can't see a specific figure etc....

Cheers

O2 havent been known to be aggressive to date on iphone users data habits.

However now it's not exclusive to them, things may change. O2 are the most expensive of all for out of bundle data costs.

Orange must have upped their limit, or just for the iphone, to 750mb. I remember having a 4mb limit/month 18 months ago when I was with them, and that was the highest Orangeworld data package they did. I can eat that an hour now I'm on T-mobiles 1.2gb limit! Always on Google maps, email set to push/pull sync etc etc.

Will be interesting to see what Vodafone's iPhone packages will be...

My iphone contract runs out in January, but I don't think I'll be defecting over to Orange esp. with a fair usage policy of only 750MB! Sod that! Will probably just switch over to paygo with 02 until a new gen iphone comes out in the summer. I'd imagine Vodafone will probably offer a similar package to 02 and Orange - i think they (vodafone) have better coverage though...

I was looking at this today and it's O2 all the way for me with unlimited data usage

Like mannyo says, 750MB is nothing. You can use that in one day at work :D

I'm still in two minds as to what to do at the mo..... Orange has slightly better hi-speed data coverage in the areas i would be using the phone most compared to o2. When i say that i mean one of the four main places has hi-speed data on the orange network when the o2 network only has normal GPRS coverage. The other three sites are hi-speed on both networks.

The 750mb limit did worry me but after speaking to a couple of friends who already have iphones and probably use them as much as i would i've found that the data usage stats on their phones go nowhere near 750mb a month...... Both came nearer 100-250mb a month.

I'll have a ponder while i wait for my PAC code to come through from vodafone. (One thing that's for certain is i won't be staying on vodafone as it comes last in the coverage stakes at the places i need!!!). And then make a decision about who it'll be.

Our work phones are Vodafone & they seem to work UNLESS there's a railway line within 3 miles of the phone. Really handy for a railway company!

Aaah I wondered why the shops were so busy today. I didn't realise that iphones were previously only on Cellnet until I'd read some of the threads on here after I'd got back!

Ahh the joy of price fixing hey

LOL @Darren's Cellnet comment - haven't heard that one in a while! :D

If it helps any, I hammer the data usage on O2's 'Simplicity' SIM (with the web bolt-on, so 'unlimited' data) in my G1 and have never come across issues or feel the need to wonder/worry how much data I'm using, or even check online to see the usage report. To me it defeats the point in having what is a fairly low allowance figure over users' heads. IMO this spoils the whole experience by making them constantly aware of what they're doing and what the implications may be on their tarriff and bill.

Just my thoughts...

Steve

Funny isn't it. The iphone would decimate the smart phone market if it was reasonably priced, yet as with all their products, Apple keep the prices high so only the devoted get them.

It is my opinion that apple make high margin profits on low quantities for many reasons including the fact that they couldn't actually cope if their computers etc went truely mass market.

I mean the iPod is pretty simple, but look at all the issue about replacing a battery on apple goods. £100!

Also their gen 1 products have always had a reputation for issues. This is to the extent that only the worshippers of Jobs buy them and beta test them, with everyone else waiting for the Gen 2 and 3 products.

To me Orange is best followed by Videophone because I can get a signal. One ca not receive a signal with O2 here. It just seem so concentrate on heavily built up areas,. They just do not have the infrastructure to be useful in my book. OK if yo live in the metropolis but don't brake down in your car out here and expect a rescue via O2!
