TBH if I thought there was any risk I wouldnt have bought it. Wrecked dashboard I could do without. Live & learn, etc. Common knowledge, it isnt.

Im just hoping others might stop from making the same mistake I did by this thread.

go to a body shop and ask if you can try a bit of thinners on a rag, I think this will remove it

Thanks, If it goes pear shaped with Sara Lee I'll have to try something to smarten it up

Wow, I cannot believe it is that bad

To continue the debate, I don't like the swingy type of air freshener on the RVM... That's where my flying Mario lives :D

Who would have thought that air freshener could initiate such a heated debate?:D

Sorry to hear about your accident.

That's why rhoobarb came here, to VENT his displeasure...

@op i use an ambi fresh and have had no problems with it. the green neutrilser things are also good too (a kind of gel thing in a plastic pack) but cant remember the name of it off hand.

have you contacted ambi pure people, it might be worth a try and if no success a motoring magazine.

The one you're looking for is Neutradol.

Pretty useless rubbish AFAIC, when I had a 0,5 of cyder leak in the boot of my car, it didn't do anything about the awful reek that it left behind.

In the end I resorted to a load of elbow grease & numerous bottles of 1001 carpet shampoo, which has worked a treat.

Thats some nasty damage - I'd be gutted. A new dash won't be cheap, and labour to swap it over would be in the region of 10hrs I'd think, I don't think you'd get change from a grand for a dealer job!

Lessons to be learnt indeed! I agree if you followed the instructions etc then the manufacturer has some liability. Keep us informed on how you get on with that, and I wish you the best of luck. :)

I use the spray on liquid air freshners, simply spray a small amount on the mats or carpet - lovely. Similar to this Chemical Guys - Cherry Fresh Scent - 16oz - Elite Car Care :) Cherry is particularly nice.

Maybe there's a safe place in the ventilation system inlet for some of these : SEBO Store

I've got some spare ones at home so I'll check what they smell like and see if I can fit them somewhere in the ventilation system.

I dont know why you all have smelly cars? if it is this corrosive what is in it that you are breathing in?

I don't know... But it's good stuff mannn! :boing:

Exactly the same thing happened to my Superb today - fumes from the airfreshner circulating around the dash, and has left it bubbled and peeled. Only when going onto the web do you realise what a common fault this is with ambi pur and all cars. Have emailed Ambi Pur and await response.

Sorry for the long delay over this....

Sorry to hear that. It is gutting, you will prbably get the same response.

After a while from sending them pics and them analyzing it, turns out its my fault, lovely. :wonder: They can't find anything wrong with the unit, so they are going on the 'fitted it wrong' road and said thanks, but no thanks.

I am so annoyed and upset about this, the car is my pride and joy and their shoddy product damaged it, lesson learned though, so please anyone reading this, avoid ambipur products like the plague! They wont do anything about it should it go wrong. Im telling everyone I know that this happens.

Indeed, ultimately it is my fault, for putting a car freshener in my car! How silly of me! Now its going to cost me big time :(
