Octavia II sees off Mazda3 and Megane in Dutch test

Featured Replies

Here's to inform that the new Octavia in 1.6 FSI guise saw off the Mazda3 1.6 Executive and Megane 1.6 16V Expression in a very convincing way in this week's AutoWeek comparison test.

Its interior is praised for being outstandingly roomy, with an excellent dash using beautiful materials, and with every dial and handle in the right place. Its handling and steering is received as top-notch and confidence-building. The only downside according to AW is that Skoda isn't playing Santa Claus anymore - the car has a fair price now, instead of being dead-cheap.

We knew that, of course, but AW praises the car to the extent that it can easily "take on competition from cars in a higher market segment". Unless you are William and feel that the car is already part of that segment. :D

No mention of the 4x4 Diesel with optional RS pack I assume,

Just done a mpg check on the cars, The L&K diesel averaged 52 mpg over about 3500 miles, the 4x4 managed twenty something & the something is a very small number

Sounds from everyone I listen to the new Octy is a winner, we just need the right model

I Wouldn't agree with that, absolute minimum you will pay for a Golf MKV is

Yes but I think that the top range Octy should be priced around 10K. Don't compare it with over inflated VW prices, compare with Citreon, Fiat, Proton, Kia etc.

I very much doubt they'd make any money at such a low price. The Citroen C5, for instance, costs from

I couldn't do that, a Skoda is a Volkswagen full stop, there is hardly anything that set's it apart from the golf apart from the name and badge, but I think Proton, Suzuki, Hyndai, Kia e.tc are no where near as good as a Skoda The Neighbor has a proton and they are just so crude and badly built it is unimaginable, But when I see a Skoda I just see Volkswagen/Audi/Seat in there, I don't see some budget brand, Maybe I could compare it to the Frenchies and some nissans e.tc, but I think that Skoda got the Equipment list on the Classic Octavia A bit wrong, I was rather suprised that I would not be getting Air conditioning, but Side airbags, Traction conrol and electric mirrors, I cant help feeling that they should have had A/C Instead of those, I mean I suppose the side airbags make them look good in safety terms, but Electric mirrors and Traction control are a little useless to me, especially on a 1.68v, I mean I would trade those things for A/C, I just don't know if many people feel the same?....

I think that the Skoda Octavia should be compare against the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Astra, VW Passat and Honda Accord. It has a larger boot than all of these cars and has similar if not bettre legroom. BTW the cars above don't get AC/Climate in the base models either. It is a family size car not a small family car. Sorry just my rant:mad: :thumbup:

Another thread up from the archives... Nice one.

And a legendary post from William I see!

Yup.
