Just going to pick up my new 1.6D

Featured Replies

Yes, I know it's not the most powerful Octy out there, but I'm still looking forward to it.

I know a few people are still interested in this relatively new engine so, hopefully, I'll write a short review when I've had chance to have a play.:D

Great - sure you're going to love it

I wanted the 1.6CR too, but they weren't offering it on the £3,500 scrappage scheme :(

And of course...

I assumed no one would want to see any pics of a bog standard Octy;)

I can confirm it's very nice. Much smoother and quieter than the PD 140 it replaced. It isn't as quick, but it certainly doesn't feel underpowered. It just feels slightly "spongy" in comparison to the more powerful engine, if that's the correct term to use.

Spongy? In terms of the suspension?

I've heard good things about the 1.6 CR engine, do give us a bit of a review when its got some miles on it :)

Well, I'll probably have to wait until Jan to look at mine so I might as well look at pictures of yours in the meantime :D

Glad you like it

I'm talking about the throttle response. It feels a bit unresponsive compared to the 140 PD. But then, there shouldn't be any surprises there. In every other respect, it's much better. Almost petrol-like quiet and smooth.

At the moment, it does still feel a bit tight. By the end of the month, I'll have a few thousand on the clock and I'll have a better idea. Plus I'll have remembered how to drive a manual properly by then having just come from DSG.;)

Mine has some 2.600 km by now (about 1900 miles), and I love it! It takes from 5.8 to 5.1l per 100km to drive on small roads and in trafic. It is a silent, smooth car, and IMHO certainly not underpowered. I think the silence gives the impression the car doesn't go forward. I will take it on vacation twice shortly, so I should be able to tell more about driving on highways. Oh, at 120km/h (maximum speed in Belgium), it makes 2200 revs, which guarantees a comfortable and silent ride.

My only problem is to find it at home, because my two sons prefer the O2 over the other car.
