Urgent help I have fitted leather seats

Featured Replies

But I have 2 small problems.

1, I cannot unbolt the seat belt anchorage, from the cloth one to put on the leather one, as the torx bolt head is different ????? tried all my bits:confused: its seems its in-between a 40 to 45 torx bit

2 the air bag warning light has come on, as I forgot to connect it up again If I reconnect it will this put the light off, or will i have to get it turned off, will reconnect it once the seat is out again to fit the belt anchorage

Some pics, you can see the bolt its bright silver on the edge of the runner

That screw is probably a double hex or triple square or spline drive (your pics were too big for me to look at). Go to a decent tool place (or even some "motor factors" I think you UK People call them) and buy a set - not too expensive and you'll need them for other screws around your car. There's been a few posts about these, a search on "spline" will probaly find them (and more info about stockists and prices).

I'm afraid I know diddly squat about your air bag warning issue.

If the air bag warning light works in a similar way to my audi, (which the previous owner had forgotten to reconnect the air bag prior to turning on the ignition) then the air bag warning light will stay on until it is reset by someone with the correct tool.

It was a pain in the ars* being on for months on end until I got round to getting it sorted. But was not an MOT failure.

Good news Took seat down to a mate who has a garage, and he had the right one he gave it a hefty tap with a Glasgow screwdriver as its held in with lock-tight and out it came he has lent me the bit for the other side.

all seats now in and cleaned and it looks brill, for future ref to remove the back seat uprights there is a clamp in-between the large and small section, undo the screw and remove the clamp then drop one half down and just wiggle the side you want off towards the centre, and it just lifts out, no need to remove the side bolsters

I tried to post some more pics but my allocation is full how can I do this

Do I get it right that the car is being used as taxi? How many miles did you cover in it?

Strange contrast of having leather seats and standard steering wheel....will you change this as well?

What ever gave you the idea it's used as a taxi? :rubchin: :D

Steve

Yeah, well ..... let me think.....maybe the roof sign?

No, but really, on first glance I thought it would be a driving school car. I am not used to seing "normal coloured" taxis ... here in Germany they are all coloured in that ugly beige....

Dont like the seats myself.

Dont like the seats myself.

Why????????, to me they are a lot easier to keep clean, after a Saturday night of peed up revelers carrying fast food take aways telling them not to open them only to find the bag has a hole in it , folk bringing in shopping bags on a rainy day with the bottom of them covered in grim leaving water stains on the seats:eek:

After driving for 10 hours yesterday I felt as fresh as a daisy as they are a lot more comfortable than the ones that came out, and the driving position was soon found

Did you get them from a breakers yard? How much did you pay (if that's not being too nosey)?

Got them off ebay for £300:D, I kept an eye on them and they had a starting bid of £450, so being a tight Yorkshire man who has learned to be even tighter with living in Scotland for 39 years;), I sent him a message stating that there was the top of the range ones from a VRS for sale for £345 so made the offer of £300 if they did not sell, and the skoda gods smiled and forced him to send me a message with come and get them there yours, they came out of an 07 BTW

The other sort is "Private Hire" or mini-cabs - these are the cars that I guess Skippy's is - these can't wait in taxi bays, can't display a TAXI sign & you can't flag them down/hail them. They have to be booked in advance & certainly round here cost a damn sight less than hackney carriage type taxis.

I will have you know I am hackney, not a take your life in there hands private hire or mini cab :rkick::soapbox:

In most areas, PH or minicab the same thing, have meters and the prices are exactly the same as a hack, a hack can pick up anywhere within its licenced area, and work anywhere in the UK as a mini cab under PH laws, a mini cab cannot and must be pre booked, at all times, if the driver is asked asked if they can take you without a booking they will loose his licence if caught as the cab would not be covered by insurance,

Its only thick councils that in some areas insist on London type hacks so that they can convey a wheelchair passenger, in 80% of the UK taxi owners can use any type of vehicle they wish, and without the illegal one colour scheme,

A hackney will always know how to get you to where you want to go, a mini cab wont
