4-bar fuel pressure regulator for Revo Technik Stage 2 Remap

Featured Replies

All

I am interested in getting Stage 2 Revo Technik remap for my Octavia vRS. One part required for this is a 4-bar fuel pressure regulator. Has anyone gone down this route and if so can they recommend a manufacturer/model number? I'd prefer one with a gauge to monitor the pressure.

Regards

Ian

I would be intrested to know about this, at some stage in the near future i will get a custom remap at Impossible and want to know if this was worth it, the advantage and any possible disadvantages and cost, is it something you can do your self (install)?

This is the one recommended 1.8t 4 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulator

The Bosch part number is: 0280 160 575. A lot cheaper from Bosch than VAG.

The 4bar FPR is a standard item that just replaces the 3bar FPR.

Same as this one

VW AUDI 1.8 20V TURBO - 4 BAR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR on eBay (end time 01-Dec-09 08:27:59 GMT)

Typical price is £40 on line or around £50 from a OEM car parts specialist.

If you are talking about a gauge then that is a none standard item. Not sure what the point to that is as the FPR should be running 4bar and thats it. Unless you are talking about an adjustable FPR which is not really needed.

REVO stage 2 map requires a 4 Bar FPR, some other remappers don't use a 4 bar for a stage 2. I have the REVO stage 2 and can say it is very worth while and a whole lot better than the stage 1.

Installation is very easy, as it sits on the end of the fuel rail. Don't replace it until car is cold as it will be under pressure. Revo remappers won't charge to fit it anyway if you supply it.

As you know my old Octy vRS was modded/ mapped and a lot more by Mike at Impossible, and ran loads better with the 4 bar FPR fitted.

As mark (Bowders) has said, its easy to fit in minutes.

Thanks for the feedback. The one that you have suggested, is one that I was considering buying. The reason I was looking for one with a gauge was because I am a bit paranoid about destroying my engine.

Thanks again.

Hi Ian, as the 4Bar FPR will not pump any more fuel that that allowed pressure and based upon what the MAP is setting the fuel / air mixtture to you would be better off getting a boost gauge as the car over boosting would be your main concern on the turbo / engine conditions. But again this should be pre determined from the custom mapping which REVO mapping garages would do. I choose to get a boost gauge just to see what is going on, and typically the boost runs at around 18 PSI which is pretty good based on the set up i have. I have seen cars run higher boost than that also, so as stated the garage installing the REVO map will take into account what the curent state of tune is on your car to then map the settings that would best suit it.

Typically for a REVO 2 you need

4bar FPR

Turbo back performance exhaust

Cold air induction kit (or a performance filter)

Also FMIC is recomended due to the increased boost that the single FMIC will be put under, to get full potential from the map..(although REVO Technik don't quote that)

the std one is 3 bar?

If I put a 3.5 bar one in will it damage the pump?

will I need to get the map tweeked?

is it worth going to 3.5 or just put a 4 in? if you do and get the map tweeked will it get much more out of it?

cheers

Yeah standard is 3 bar mate.

If you put a pressure gauge on the fuel feed line, it would read 2.5bar when the car is at idle (vacuum). Then if you pulled off the vacuum line to the FPR, the pressure would pop up to 3bar. That's just how to check it.

As far as I know, you can't just put a 4bar FPR in without changing the map.

Whether or not it's better to have 3bar or 4bar I don't know. APR seem to cope with 3bar, but Revo use 4bar. God knows!

I would have thought the standard pump is capable of pumping at 4bar, as plenty of people do it on the standard pump. I'd imagine you only need a better pump when you put bigger injectors in, and demand high fuel pressures and flow rates.

Mine is still running on standard pump with 4Bar FPR

I have a little drawing for you mate! Just need to find the CD to install this damn scanner!

Thanks for all your advice. I have a Bosch outlet near where I work and from them it is about £40 plus VAT. I have ordered a Blueflame Cat-back exhaust and 100 Cell Cat. I have also ordered a Forge Cold Air Induction Kit and also want to get a hold of a Neuspeed TIP. I am fortunate at being able to get Forge, Blueflame at trade, through a friend so it is going to keep the cost down a bit. The only expense that I will need to give a miss is the FMIC. Although, I may just keep some pennies back for that after we get Christmas out of the way. Would an Forge SMIC work better than the OEM one? I would prefer this option due to cost.

Ian, don't think Forge do a SMIC as a replacement to the OEM one and if they did the price would be pretty expensive probably close to the FMIC.

Audi 1.8T S3's have twin SMIC so you could follow that option, or go the DIY route mentioned. If not replacing the SMIC you need to monitor the charge temps if making use of the extra power regularly. Some folks have got away with using the OEM SMIC using various other custom mapping which I would gather air's on the side of lessor severe mapping.

When I went onto the Forge site and selected Octavia 1.8T and then the intercooler option from the menu at the side; this product appeared along with the standard FMIC they sell -

Forge Motorsport | Alloy Fabrication

Would this fit the vRS and if so would it work with the Revo map?

Nice find, That is a nice SMIC and appears to fullill requirements. It will fit the VRS. The issue would be is how to get air into it when it is mostly covered by the bumper and wheel arch plastic compared to a FMIC. I got my FMIC for around £600 through here direct with forge so I bet you can get that for considerably less. Email Forge and ask them for a best can price. Also ask them regarding what Remap your are going for and they will advise you further.

I think the best you can do in terms of routing air would be to pull out the bumper insert on that side and swiss-cheese your wheel arch liner. The standard SMIC has a plastic duct mounted to the front which helps channel the air so you could probably bodge that on to the Forge SMIC if they are about the same size.
