Loud clicking when cooling down

Featured Replies

Dont know about this but whenever we use the car (mk 1 Octy) and park up the car makes a very cloud clunk/click noise from where the engine is under the car, then today the mrs took the car to pick up the kids parked up and waited in the car and she noticed this clunk click sound she also told me that when it happens if she has her hand on the gear stick she and it could be felt through the stick.

I have just tried it going out to get some beers in and it even does this when its not up to temp and when it makes this clunk click sound it can be felt through the gearstick.

Just thought some people here may have had a similar problem as i have heard all sorts about mounting bolts breaking.

Its never happend before now.

Cheers

All the cars I have had click when cooling down, its the metal of the exhaust contracting again having been heated up and expanded. You may well feel this occuring through the gearstick, and in this cool weather the cooling ocurrs much faster.
