MFD3 / Columbus in Fabia II?

Featured Replies

I see the car stereo bays seem to be a very similar, if not identical size and shape between the FL Octy and the Fabia, so has anyone succeeded in putting either of these models into their Fabia or Roomster, seeing as the dash would appear to be identical in both of the latter cars?

I'm hoping to buy a car within the next 6-12 months, and a Fabia, or perhaps even an Octy is on the list of potentials.

Eh?!

I thought this thing relied on a GPS receiver with it being 2009 and all instead of the motion of the wheels or whatever that CAN bus would tell it.

How disappointing.

Can you point me to the topics in question, as the search facility has not produced them?

The unit uses both GPS and feedback from the ABS sensors to determine where you are. For example, with the MFD3 its possible to drive underground through very long bendy tunnels and change speed/direction whilst the MFD3 know exactly where you are. A Tomtom with GPS only get lost very quickly in a long tunnel. I recently drove the the Mont Blanc Tunnel and the tunnel exit was perfect with the one on the map display. Without the ABS sensors, the unit does work but because it does not sample data from the GPS as regularly as a tomtom does (it normally doesnt need to) progress can be jumpy and you may miss a turning as a result. The ABS sensor data is supplied via Canbus, which the Fabia2 does not present in this manner.

OK, thanks for that. :)

But a Bolero would work OK, right?
