Virus warning - a.exe

Featured Replies

Had this virus appear today and not sure how. I don't visit any "dodgy" websites and I never open an email unless I know who it's from. It appeared today on my desktop and it was a disc shaped icon. When I tried to delete it, it wouldn't allow me. I had to go into task manager, close the active file and then delete. I ran a virus scan and nothing was picked up. Since then I have had the icon appear twice more. I've also had a couple of programs pop-up saying they have stopped working. Has anyone had experiences of this virus and how to remove it totally??

This explains a little about it:

Remove a.exe virus | a error | a.exe

a.exe is registered as the W32.Ahlem.A@mm worm which is transmitted via e-mail and attempts to install itself on your computer. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

Tried to download the antivirus but I've noticed that I cant download any files now. When I try, the file downloads and then automatically deletes itself!!! I've run AVG and spybot but still having problems. When I try system restore, it says a windows update was applied but I have my system set to never update windows. I restored to a time before the update, but it keeps applying itself.

HELPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

have you tried running malwarebytes, etc in safe mode? I never trust these things to go away completely, so I would blank my machine and start again!

Found out after hours of googling that the saving files issue was related to AVG free 9.0. There must be a bug with the program becasue it wont allow any downloads to be saved. I removed all the files in safe mode and it works a treat now. I installed Avast instead and it detected 29 threats that AVG didn't find.

AVG has gone really cr@p

AVG has always been crap IMO&E.

EVERYONE I know that raved about it and vested their safety in it has been infected with something very nasty.

Run an online scan at Trend, McAfee, Norton etc as anything on the PC (past present or future) can no longer be trusted.

I can't remember why I stopped using AVG- didn't they threaten to stop the free version?

Anyway, I use Avast these days, and I've not been infected ever, but then I tend to take at least some care online.
