50 litre fuel tank???

Featured Replies

For years now I have always brimmed the tank when filling up so I can accurately calculate the MPG. The second fill on our new 1.4 TDi took just under 49 litres and the tank was one segment above the reserve mark so there was still some fuel in there. According to the manual the size of the tank is 45 litres which includes 7 litres spare, so how was it possible to get so much more in?

Was the pump working correctly. My dad filled his greenline up from half way down the last blob with about 40 miles remaining on the trip computer and he could only get just over 41 litres in from that point.

Yes it was. It was surprising to see the fuel continuing to slowly go down the filler tube. I half expected the boot to be full of diesel.

That is strange, they do have the same tank as the MK1 Fabia. Same across the Ibiza/Polo range too.

Ive never managed to fit more than 45 litres in the Fabia MK2 I had, but I was brimming it as was going for a long run, so used the old venting tech.

What's that?

I guess the "expansion tank" was filled too...

I have had this with mine before. Once filled up after a long run and having the light on for a while. Tank is 42 litres and 43.7 litres went in!

I think it must be down to the pump nozzle perhaps stopping later than normal and filling up the expansion tank and filler nozzle etc.

venting, the tank is 45 litres, but you have lots of tubes and that to fill too!

If you do the ventectomy mod you can get another couple of gallons in there. The most I've ever put in is about 56 litres. It's possible to get this much in without doing the mod, but you have to press the valve with the filler nozzle. Perhaps you were pressing it without realising.

Ther eis always the option that the fuel pump wasn't accurate.

It's happened before and a quick call to trading standards wouldn't go amiss as they should be able to find out when the pump was last tested and also send somebody along to test it too.

Filled up my Fabia 1 on the 11th Nov at Tesco. It had 2 segments above the reserve showing on the gauge. As I had a 5p a litre off voucher, I brimmed it till the pump knocked off, waited 4 or 5 seconds and then did it again twice. When I looked at the pump, I had put 46.24 litres in. By my estimation, I had the 7 litre reserve plus about 5 litres in before I started. I contacted the trading standards, as Tesco were caught giving short measure a little time ago. Not the store I went to though. Trading standards checked the pump and found it OK. Hope I,ve not libelled Tesco!!

Just as a final note.

Topped up at a different Tesco this week. Gauge the same . I only got 38 litres in. Possibly a difference as the forecourt slopes slightly uphill.

Any other results Andyfr??
