Service advice for Octavia II (2006)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2006 Octavia 1.9 TDI and its coming up on 54k miles. The service indicator has been coming up since about 51k and I have been putting off going to the skoda dealer for service, mixture of cost and time to arrange lift etc.

I have changed oil and filters etc on my previous cars and now this one is out of its warranty period, I am happy enough to go ahead and work on my Octavia.

Ive read the 60k mark is a big service interval, needing a belt change so will definitely have the garage do that but Id like to go ahead and do this one on my own.

What would I need to do now, apart from change oil and oil filter? I dont have a service schedule for this car so would appreciate if anyone could give me information on whats required for this mileage.

Possibly a silly question but did you not receive the service book when you purchased the car? That's the one with the dealer stamps in to say what was done and when. Mine has a picture of a green Octavia on the front cover. The service schedule is in the front of that book.

EDIT: Despite an injured finger here's what my Service Schedule say, albeit paraphrased.

Oil change service

Engine oil changed, oil filter replaced

Service interval display reset

Fuel filter drained

Brake pads checked

Inspection service - variable servicing is always an inspection service AFAIK

(As oil change above plus)

Bonnet and boot locks lubed

Electrics checked

Wipers checked and replaced. Washers checked and topped up

Headlights checked and adjusted

Ribbed v-belt checked

Every 60000miles

Air filter replaced (60k or 6 yrs)

Cambelt changed (60k or 4 yrs)

Every 2 years

Brake fluid changed

Every 15 yrs

Seatbelts and airbag replaced

Thanks very much for the info! There was no service schedule in the handbook folder (nearly new used car), I should probably get in touch with the dealer to see if they can print off a copy.

Hope the finger is doing better!

Hope you got hold of the service schedule. I'm in much the same boat, just servicing mine for the first time. One thing you're probably aware of is that the reset button resets to the QG0 schedule. According to my service manual, the timing belt change on the Mk II is at 120,000km, or 4 years, to I was going to get it done in the summer probably. If you haven't tackled it yet - changing the air filter was a walk in the park, plus I think the oil will be fairly straightforward.

Any input from your experiences much appreciated.

Oh yes - can anyone tell me the whereabouts of the pollen/dust filter is? Not met it yet.... I have the Haynes manual for the Mk1 but I'm not sure that applies any more.

Above the front seat passenger's feet. Undo the two wing nutty things, pull down the carpet, slide the filter cover to one side (can't remember which way!), pull out old filter, shove new one in, slide cover back, refit carpet and wingy nutty thingummys and Robert is your father's brother.

Dont duck the cam belt change - find a local VAG independent - if it brakes you will need a new engine at a little more cost than a belt change.
