Spare wheel bay & rear bumper cover foil

Featured Replies

Purchased a rear bumper cover foil for the Snow-monster as I thought it looked ideal to cover the bumper when it was wet and I wanted to sit on the boot sill to change in/out of walking boots.

Attaches to two tabs at the base of the rear trim panel in the boot, so had to remove the spare.

Found that it came without the required screws, so spent time routing around for some in our garage.:(

Anyway I remember some time back the question was asked if you could remove the spare and related trim to get back to a flat floor.

As I stated at the time the associated trim will be the time consuming bit as two of the surrounding polystyrene boxes are fixed to the boot floor by some large headed plastic fixings. The spare wheel cover is also attached with similar fixings to the front face of these boxes.

Once the spare is out it's mounting post is very easy to remove, has a very simple bayonet fixing using a foam washer as a spring to keep it in the 'locked' position.

A bit worrying you have to carry a bottle of oil in the boot, not using that much is it? ;)

No but I did get a bottle of oil free with the car, although I think you are referring to a bottle of screen wash. Carry some spare in the winter just in case I run out; particularly as the Yeti has headlight washers as well.

Anyway thanks for your concern.:D

So if you DON'T have the spare wheel what is under the boot carpet?

Anyone got a picture please?

Second question.

I have ordered mine without the spare. If later I decide I need a spare, aside from the cost, does it look like a reasonable retrofit option?

What would I need to buy?

Styrene to the left. Styrene to the right, plastic screw in the middle and cover on the top.

Hi Tom,

if you have no spare then a ring of styrene is inserted into the shallow well to keep the floor level. If you watch the Honestjohn road test of the 1.8TSI he pulls this out of the boot.

There are three styrene boxes, one on the nearside which is fixed and two on the offside, with a small fixed box at the front and a larger removable box to the rear for accessing the tool kit well below. The whole lot is covered by a board backed carpet cover, as previously mentioned attached to the front face of the boxes.

Besides that a fixing post, spare wheel obviously (195/60/R16 fitted) and tool kit.

Where did you get the cover from? I need something like that for the dog. Cheers:thumbup:

Ordered from my dealer; came across them in the on-line accessories catalogue.

Make sure if you are going to fit yourself you get some screws, as mine came without.

Also noticed from the instruction book that came with it you can get versions for all Skoda models.

How do you think the dog will look in it?

How thick is the rear bumper cover? If it's fairly heavy duty it looks like a good way of protecting the boot opening when loading and unloading heavy items.

I wish I'd known about them before, one would have been very useful for my current Octavia Estate.

I would describe it as light to medium duty, hope attached photo helps.

There is also available a decorative protective cover for the rear bumper – ALU look ( part no. 5L0 071 360), sticks on the bumper top in the opening.

See page 4 of the on-line Yeti accessories brochure.

The same manufacturer also do door sill plates. Do a search on Yeti.
