Curbed Alloy - Advice please

Featured Replies

OK - so had my nice new A3 for 6 weeks now, only done 600 miles (company car) and after being very careful with it I had a little blip yesterday. There was a little spider hanging down my inside windscreen so I decided I would grab it and put it out the window. Whilst on my little mission I didn't notice the big curb on my left and smacked my passenger side front wheel.

I have let the service company know to see what I can do as work normally pay for all repairs but I was wondering if this could actually be repaired or would it need replacing?

Want to get it checked at a garage anyway to make sure no structural damage and check tracking/steering etc....

Anyway very angry with myself. Haven't done anything like that for years!

Pics attached. Any thoughts please guys and gals?

Thanks.

I'd go to the Audi dealer and see who they use to fix their alloy wheels. Book it in through Audi, will cost you a little bit more but at least it'll be done right. Any problems and you can go back to the dealer etc.

For minor kerbing around the edges, its normally between £20-50 to repair. To do a full face could be anywhere from £50-100.

Could I get away with 'round the edges' do you think? Its pretty much contained to the edge I think. Given that the car is so new I agree, will go to the main dealer I think. Most likely that work would make me do that anyway.

Tbh its probably easier for the repairer to finish off the whole wheel rather than trying to fix just the edge and blending the paint in.

From my pics do you reckon there would be and structural damage to the wheel or anything else I need to worry about?

Doubt it but any repairer will be able to see if there is any structural damage

almost certainly only cosmetically damaged by the look of it...you could take the tyre off and file the raggy bits as smooth as poss then get it powder coated, prob cost approx £35 ish...only downside is matching colour to the other 3.

Sounds positive, thanks. Makes me feel a little better lol. I am hoping that the colour match will be quite easy as the car is only 6 weeks old so still fresh so to speak.

Any ideas on the timescale for getting it repaired if I can find a decent place?

I'll go against the grain and say you've lost at least some metal and got sharp edges so I'd get the spare on, get an opinion and if possible repair it if not replace it ASAP.

Sharp edge, plus tyre isn't a good combination IMHO
