Clutch Question

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I was thinking of remap and someone mention various issues I might encounter with the clutch slipping.

I've been told quite a few stories from tuners and mechanics etc to get helix or sachs full set up? Others telling me just to get a sachs pressure plate?

What is the best thing to do here?

Thanks in advance

as you say theres various opinions..some say they last ok some say otherwise..imo leave it standard initially and drive it sensibly ..ie use the power band properly and it shud last..if it doesnt then uprate it.

I would get the remap and leave the standard clutch in. Issues will depend on the state of the clutch as it is now ie. is it already well worn? You will most likely experience some slippage after remap if you drive it hard, but if you just drive it like normal there shouldn't be any problems. If you know you are going to drive it like a slag then maybe think about it. Personally I don't think it's worth it though. Once you have had the remap for a few weeks, you will know where you lie with the state of the standard clutch ie. slipping or not, then you will know what to do.

+1 the above

It's a lottery on how long your clutch will last, even in standard tune if you're booting it all the time your clutch won't last. Remapping will increase the risk off clutch slip of course but there again, many VAG diesels that have been mapped and a clutch lasts for years.

All depends on what Fabia you have

Mine is a 5 speed and is on 175k miles and has done approx 80k miles mapped

She is still on the origional clutch too :)

But only 10 or so more BHP.

Who told you that? :finger:

Went from 100 to 141BHP :D

whats not been mentioned yet is, if you have a proper remap, not just a generic one, the mapper can limit the torque output from the remap, this is done so the clutch is put under less pressure when the engine is booted

i know you can ask Jabba to do this,

of course if you still want to boot it from low revs in a high gear, then the clutch isn't going to last very long, even with the torque limited

I thought you had a 1.4 petrol.

Indeed it is a lottery, I am with Sarah on this one.

2003/03 Fabia vRS 126k+ miles 90k of which mapped 175bhp/295lb/ft and still on original clutch.

I thought you had a 1.4 petrol.

1.9TDI with 100BHP as standard :D
