Demisting

Featured Replies

My wife is complaining that the demisting on her vRS is not very efficient. Apparently, the passenger side clears reasonably quickly but the drivers side takes twice as long.

Anyone else suffer from this problem?

Cheers.

FWIW my wife's Felicia is the same. Perhaps it's something to do with the direction of rotation of the blower fan.

Ensure you have a very clean windscreen inside to begin with, I haven't cleaned the inside of my screen since delivery last March. You can still see the suction clamp marks used to fix the winscreen in position at the factory. So my screen takes ages to clear, guess what on? the passenger side.

I usually use fan speed two, ac on and the control pointed to the windscreen.

Mine can sometimes mist up MORE if I blwo air on it in the morning...

But mine is due for a treatment of autogylm glass cutter and polish. The muck/grease on the inside is appalling - makes me wonder where the hell it all comes from?! :D

Autogylm glass cutter.
Not heard of that, Jason. Is it widely available?

yeah mine is the same and I really need to wash the inside, in my last car I found wiping it makes it worse its best just to wait for it to demist with blowers once its clean

I've always liked the way you can see the marks where the options printout was stuck to the inside of the windscreen when it mists up.

Halfords do one as well - I bought it and haven't got round to using it yet (plus the blue Autoglym stuff on top !)

How is the blower speed in general and how old is the car/mileage?

Clean screen will help as will having the a/c on and air re-circ off.

Anyone had heater fan noises? I have twice had sounds like rampant jet engine from the fan which went off by the next time I used the car. I suspect water in the bottom of the fan chamber/plenum, as it is first thing in the morning and might drain off later? Anybodyelse had this or comments?

I find mine tends to mist up even more after being cleaned, can't remember what I used on it.

Tip 1 - don't use any of that "anti-mist" rubbish - it doesn't stop mist, but it causes bigger drops of condensation to form - these then take longer for the fans to evaporate, and leave more marks on the screen - RUBBISH!

Tip 2 - If you can't get the Autoglym one (which I have used and is very good) then I'm pretty sure Halfords do Turtle Wax ClearVue glass polish which is much the same stuff, in a bigger bottle, for less money. Creates a bit more dust than the autoglym tho, so make sure you do this first and clean the dash second...

Tis really crap on my VRS also. Have to use the Aircon usually.

I've finally got to try my wife's vRS out to see how bad the demisting is. With the aircon left on it does clear pretty fast, with it off it mists up very quickly. Guess the answer is for the aircon to be left on. Funnily enough I only cleaned the inside of the windscreen fairly recently and the problem has become apparent since then. Thanks everyone for your input.

I think part of the problem is that most cars are basically designed with left hand driv in mind. The switch the controls over for the UK but do not alter the demisters and in the case of some cars like the 206 not even the wipers meaning that UK drivers end up with poorer clearing of the screen in wet conditions. Funnily enough neither Octy tends to mist up much but my Felicia's always used to demist much faster on the passenger side.
