Does anybody know of any free fault code software on the internet that can be downloaded to read the fault codes on a skoda felicia.

Vag-com. You'll need a cable though.

you can buy very cheap hand held scanners off ebay but thier functionality is quite limited, you can read and erase codes but you cant access adaption channels or measurement blocks with them, but they are ideal just checking it i suppose

Yeah, I've got one just like that, that I keep in the car. Works great within its limits (basically engine codes read and deleted only, like Tom says). Enough to get me home should I need it, where I have a copy of VAG-COM...
