Rear number plate mountings

Featured Replies

Is the rear plate held on with captive nuts? or do I need to remove the trim from the hatch to get at loose nuts?

If you have no drilled holes on the rear number plate then it is stuck on.

Self-tapping screws into holes in the hatch door as far as I know...

Thanks guys looks like mine is held on with cheese head screws which probably have loose nuts inside the panel :(

Reason I ask is one of the protective plastic caps (which covers the screw head) has broken off and the screw head is going rusty so needs replacing.

Suspect I will have to remove the trim from the hatch to recover a loose nut or two :( Think I will use double side sticky tape to fasten the rear plate in place.

if the plate is held on like the octy, then its just a self tapping screw straight into the bodywork.

Jesus talk about opening the body upto rust !!

Mine has plastic rawplug type thing in the tail gate that a machine screw (non-self tapping) goes into?!?

Yes, and just think how BIG that rusty spot will get before it's noticed behind the number plate! :thumbdwn:
