Price to fix Leaking Rear Doors - Water in Footwells

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 54 plate Fabia is leaking into the rear footwells and I think it's starting on the front passenger as well. The material at the bottom of the inside of the door is all wet so I am in no doubt that it's the door carriers.

I bought it as a used car (54 plate, less than 6 months ago) from a Skoda dealer and, meeting their criteria, it was given a 12 month warranty by Skoda (though to be honest, I have no idea what that covers - the only one on the website is for brand new cars - maybe it's the same) but it's supposed to be good.

Would these leaks be covered by the warranty? They said it would cost £106 inc VAT for the work for the 2 rear doors but I feel like the fronts need doing to. And I have found posts on here that say that, for cars within warranty, Skoda UK have told dealers to do all 4.

I could try and do it myself but I know it would take me all day and I'd end up in a mess so I have to take it in, but

  • should I be paying for it?
  • should I get all 4 doors done? and
  • is £106 inc VAT for 2 doors the right price?

Many thanks.

Dave

you really need to find out who is underwriting the warranty, and get in touch with them, also read through the warranty booklet you should have got when you took it out, to find out exactly what is covered

water leaks may not be covered, but as its a very well known concern on the Fabia, you may have some leeway in getting it repaired for free

seriously, do it yourself, i got some roof and gutter sealant for £1, and the clips cost pence, once you have done one door you can do the others pretty quick, you could do the whole car in an hour

It took me about 2 hours to do all 4 of my doors and i was incredibly meticulous, think i went around them 2-3 times to make sure and gave them 30 mins to dry a bit before closing.

Its fairly easy (coming from a none mechanical person, although i've spent half my life inside pc's and enjoy dismantling :D) and if you hit any snags just post on here, someone will help!

Its a few screws, then pull. I left the door cars hinged by the top while i did it.

Skoda did one of my doors and charged me £25.50 i think (30 minutes labour) even though i asked them to do em all! Wish i'd saved the money and just done it myself.

Anyway, Check with the warranty company first, if not, i'd do it myself rather than face £100+ bill when £5 and 2 hours of my time would suffice

It is really so easy to do yourself, any competent home DIY'er who can read the guides on these forums should be able to do both doors in a couple of hours or so.

As said a above the clips are pence and depending on your preference the sealer can be super cheap too but even the best silicone sealants are less trhan £10.

A definite DIY job.

do you need to buy new clips, or can you use the old ones? thanks

You are bound to break a few clips, so buy a bag of new ones just in case.Even Halfords sell them at a reasonable price.

ah what do the clips look like? where abouts in halfords are they? thanks

This sonds silly but they look like very small Octopii, or Squids, ( about an inch long ) I presume you are being risible in asking the second question, so I will say they are on the second shelf on the third aisle....

Sure i looked in halfords, didn't have any. May be some you can use instead.

Guess they kinda look like:

But the skoda ones have a rubber seal/ring too, they're only about 15p or something and most dealers will have plenty in stock!

btw doing 4 doors i needed about 8 replacements lol glad i bought 10

did mine yesturday, once done are you still getting water sitting on the rubber seal on the body, at the bottom?
