is it wrong to.....

Want a Beemer after driving one. Borrowed my mechanics BMW 523i to go to London and its an awesome car. Power, suprisingly agile too. Was a bit nervous about it being an auto having never driven one properly. Now I'm trying to justify getting a BM as a second car, want a Touring one. :D Or even selling my Skoda :( Ayone else been in a similar dilema?

Yes and if I had the money, I'd have a BMW on the drive.

As it is, I don't so the skoda is a good compromise for me.

Like Dad's 2001 330D which only cost about £4k (sister works for BMW sales ;)) but I couldn't live with one if I wished to maintain my passion for driving damn fast, handling fast, track use, etc etc. It's just a very competent motorway mile muncher.

I have had 3 BMW's before and found them to be a good car. If you want one, get one :)

Am with you there we are looking at either a vrs estate, superb estate or 5 series touring for the family car preferably a 530d m sport looks awsome and used to drive them for work very nice

Now that is a good answer!!! doesnt need any justification!!!

I drove one a year or so back, and was quite underwhelmed given everyone's hype over having one.

I can think of more enjoyable to drive and better equipped cars for less cash.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a BMW, I've been toying with the idea of buying one since my vRS went. A local dealer recently had an 07 335D M Sport, and well loaded too. 281bhp and still does 45mpg.

Yep, buy one :)

Try one with a manual box though as well - you're missing out with the auto IMO.

Be prepared to not be let out of junctions anymore ;)

I'd have one, be sure to choose the right one though, I understand that BMW did a special Edition Model. " It has Indicators "

I love BMWs, not many models I don't like (X6/X5/X3/X1, think thats it!). Must be a 6 cylinder though if you are going E34/E39. :)

Be a little weary of the 528 before 1998, still Nikasil problems with them if they've not had an engine change.

I guess the advantage of buying a BMW is that you don't have to change lane on the motorway. Just mindlessly sit in lane 3 twiddling your thumbs and ignoring the 300 cars waiting behind you. Then if any porpers in less expensive cars try to get by your overpriced rolling road block, you can try to accelerate to keep them at bay, and make them aware that you paid too much for your length of bland car, so you deserve to drive like a retard!

I'm sorry, but my opinions are based on fact! I spend alot of time driving up and down the full length of the M1. When I see a car up ahead, overtaking nothing, with clear lanes to the left of them, it's almost always a damn BMW with his cruise control on!

As Babs mentioned, if I see a BMW at a junction I instantly think '****', and keep driving.

As Skoda drivers must endure the skip jokes, BMW drivers must endure the fact that everyone hates them!

You mean like the countless fabia that sit in lane 2 doing 50/60 and don't move over even after you and many others have pulled from lane 1 then 2 then 3, then back into 1 to overtake them? Perhaps the like the white MK I VRS that take up lane 3/4 on the motorway and stick there or the countless fabia VRS drivers that drive like they own a supercar and pull out without looking?

There are idiots driving all brands.

The BMW drivers are no worse than a lot of others on the road and in some cases better.

Especially Mr R8 CPU who decided trying to max it out in the p*ssing rain is a good idea.

Anyway, I'm sorry but I spend far too much of my life on the motorways and the BMW drivers are no worse than the merc or any others.

Ger to the idiots driving around in 20 year old heavily ch*ved BMWs and it's a different story, but they are again the same as ch*vs in other cars, only they had slightly more cash to buy a better badged starter shed for chavification.

I've been quite tempted by a 525tds before and they are a hell of a lot of car for your money and a lovely straight six derv engine..

Would have to be a slush box for me I must say. As much as I love trying a manual at times I just like auto's more for some reason. Has to have a bit of power behind it though or it's just not worth the bother!

Think the one that I like is the E39 one:

My dad used to have an E39 530d M-Sport in Sterling Grey, awesome car, loved it. Now he has a 3 cylinder Polo...

Yes thats an E39 Phil. 525TDS is a nice enough engine for sure, some mega milers about!

I've only really driven E36's... can't get comfortable while driving them though.

Errr I don't get the E numbers? But the Beemer I borrowed was like the one Philje posted but with the 2.3 6cyl The one I have seen is the model before with the twin round lights. Have been toying with the idea of the TDS but the good ones get snapped up faster than a very fast thing!!!

E36 = nineties 3-series :)

You need to try an E36 M3 Evo. Not just for the seats though! But they are lovely and are very supportive.

That's the answer :D

This will help you. The E numbers will make sense and you'll become fluent when you become suitably Munich-ised :D

HTH,

Steve

My e36 was the comfiest car I've owned, it just fitted perfectly, like a glove. The sports seats were simply perfect, with more adjustments than anything else I've owned.

There was no 2.3l, its a softer tune version of the 2.5. 525 and 523 are both 2.5l :)

Been there done that. Love the engine and "drivability" of my 118D but occasionally get fed up of the harsh ride on potholed roads (mine is an Msport with thesports suspension setup) althought this has been improved by ditching the run flat tyres.

And I do miss my DSG 'box.
