Extra rear fog light

Featured Replies

Hiya all, Having a problem with our MK1 fabia the car seems to have gained an extra rear fog light and its constantly on with sides or full lights. I thought it was the bulb so I have replaced with with an identical one but its still the same. Any ideas? Thanks Michael

Front or back, why do say its and extra one ??

Hiya it's an extra rear one

I have one foglight on the drivers switch that can be controlled as normal

however the same light on the other side looks as bright as a normal fog light but it's always on with the main lights

Is it a dual filament bulb (5/21w)? It is possible to get these in the wrong way around meaning the 21w bulb would be lit when the 5w should be

For the record it's a 4/21w, But yes the bulb has probably been incorrectly fitted!

Dammit!!! This is the first one I thought I could answer correctly

and the flying scotsman steams in ahead of me.... Feck!

Quick on the draw as always Mike... Hope you're keeping well mate. :)

Doing fine Garry! You?

Your Fabia came with 1 rear foglight bulb from the factory and would be on the offside of the car, someone has tried to do the 2 rear foglight mod and wired it up to the sidelight by mistake.

Strange -always thought mine had two rear fogs -suspect at moment one bulb is out , but the interesting thing is that Haynes wiring diag for Fabia 2000 - 2006 shows two foglamps at rear .Will check out passenger side rear fog tomorrow and post .

There are 2 foglamp holders there but only the offside has the bulb and wired up. As I said earlier someone has tried to wire up the nearside and got it wrong. Have a good look at the wiring I'm sure you will find non factory wiring on the nearside. If thats not the case then check all the rear bulbs to see if they are the right wattage/voltage and inserted correctly.

As promised -checked mine it's an 04 1.4Tdi -the rear passenger sidefog is wired up with a dual bulb in it -no sign of after work -I certainly haven't done any and it was a courtesy car with it's first owner,so I doubt that they'd have done it .New bulb in and both fogs come on .It's almost impossible to put bulb in wrong way ,but could it be a buld with the pins in the opposite config meaning that it will only go in the wrong way .

If you put a double filament bulb in the n/s/r/ light would it light up like a rear fog or would it stay like the rear light should........Just wondering.

With the lights in-situ the offside plug (light grey/brownish) will be fully populated, the nearside will have the bottom wire missing, If it's fully populated, Trace the bottom wire back to source.

It's pretty hard to screw up the second fog light mod in all fairness!

Hiya,

Sorry about the delay in replying to this post been away from a while

A couple of weeks ago I got sick of it and put a small amount of electicians tape over one of the terminals on the bottom of the bulb ..Its a bodge but it works :D

Thanks for the replies.

I tapped into the nearside rear foglight and got it to work.-- A bit fiddley but successful.-- Weird how the double element bulb and holder are identical to offside, yet lack the loom connection to get both working.

Just so they save 10p on a length of wire.

10p. may not seem much of a saving but when you are making thousands of cars the cost saving rapidly increases.

I think the original idea of having a single rear foglamp bulb was to distinguish it from the brake lights - two bright red lights could be mistaken for brake lights, especially in the days before everything came with a centre brake light. The bulb holders will be identical left and right for LHD & RHD markets - just a different loom used.

Happy Christmas everyone

Hi, just for information, last week I got my n/s rear foglight enabled at Alex Lawries in Liverpool for £41.

It sounds a lot, but it's much safer with 2 lamps, and anyway I'm hopeless with electrics and would probably have ended up burning out the car if I'd tried to do it!
