Variable servicing? please help

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased an Octy (two weeks ago). It has 15,900 miles now and had 15,210 when i bought it. The service book shows a service at around 10k miles and the next one due at either 20k or one years.

However, and heres the confusing bit, the trip computer which displays the service details when the ignition is turned on is showing service 600 miles (or something like that). When i got the car this figure read service 1000 miles, but has gradually reduced and every now and again it will go down by 100 miles.

What does this mean???

Any help please

It means the car has been set for varaiable servicing, If its a Diesel the odds are it was set for variable servicing when new & it wasnt reset when the 10000 service was carried out.

If you can get the car back to a Skoda dealer, preferably the one who serviced it they should be able to advise you & also reset it anyway.

Note the cars on variable servicing use a better quality oil so you need to know whats in your car. If in doubt & you are sure its been serviced at 10000 I would carry on to 20000, get it serviced then & at that point decide if you want to go on to variable. Our Octy 110 diesel is on variable & is managing a staggering 28000 miles between services so variable is worth considering

Does the variable servicing reading im getting take into account the standard oil in the engine which has been used on the set 10,000 mile service. With the correct oil etc, what sort of service intervals should i be expecting (approx.)??

JD[/quote']As Stuart said, ignore the service indicator reading - it hasn't been reset by the dealer - and get the car serviced again at 20,000 miles (or after 1 year). At that stage you can talk to your dealer about having the car set for variable servicing. In the meantime you can reset the service indicator yourself if you don't want to visit your dealer to get it done. The procedure is simple and is explained in the Controls and Equipment - Speedometer section of the Owner's Manual. The service indicator is clever enough to detect if the engine is topped up with more than 1/2 litre of non long-life oil between services and will come on earlier, ie the time or distances between services will be reduced accordingly.
